Marisa’s Top 14 Shows of 2014

It was another great year for television, and to celebrate that, I made my list of the top shows in 2014.
As per usual, my annual disclaimer: I literally can’t watch every show, and so some shows that probably should be here (like TRANSPARENT) didn’t make the cut because I couldn’t catch up in time. (But on the bright side, I caught up on every show I name-checked last year as not being caught up on.)
So, these are my top shows of the year…
11. FARGO
It almost feels like a cheat to have FARGO here (the show will return for a second "season," but it will be a prequel with an entirely new cast), but Noah Hawley's adaptation of the 1996 movie was incredible. Allison Tolman was the obvious/deserved breakout of the series, and not enough can be said about how well Martin Freeman embodied the role of Lester Nygaard, a beaten down man who finally got some gumption, or the quiet delight of Billy Bob Thorton's hit man, Lorne Malvo.
