Marisa’s Top 14 Shows of 2014

It was another great year for television, and to celebrate that, I made my list of the top shows in 2014.
As per usual, my annual disclaimer: I literally can’t watch every show, and so some shows that probably should be here (like TRANSPARENT) didn’t make the cut because I couldn’t catch up in time. (But on the bright side, I caught up on every show I name-checked last year as not being caught up on.)
So, these are my top shows of the year…
4. YOU'RE THE WORST
Who would have thought an (on-paper) raunchy comedy about potentially unlikeable people would be one of the best/most touching shows of the year? But that's what YOU'RE THE WORST ended up being.
Aya Cash and Chris Geere's easy chemistry made it easy to invest in the Jimmy and Gretchen relationship (and some of the more questionable things their characters did), but the show truly blossomed when it brought the supporting cast (the equally fantastic Kether Donohue (Lindsay) and Desmin Borges (Edgar)) more fully into the mix and played with the ensemble's dynamic.
