With PLAYING HOUSE’s second season underway, the show is now being released in a unique way: though the episodes are airing on television in its normal time slot (Tuesdays at 10 PM on USA Network), the next episode is available online and On Demand a week before it shows up on TV.

For PLAYING HOUSE creators/stars Jessica St. Clair and Lennon Parham, the episodes’ early availability could lead to spoiler-related issues — especially since both women are very active on social media, and regularly interact with the show’s biggest fans.

“It’s interesting. I never thought of that,” St. Clair acknowledged during the show’s Television Critics Association panel. “But now…because we do have some twists and turns coming up that are really going to shock people.”

“There are a lot of changes this season,” Parham added.

“What Lennon and I love to do with our writing is…everything’s always funny, a hundred percent,” St. Clair said. “That’s the UCB. You have to go for the comedy. But we like to have, like, real heart. And we like to have our characters have a real arc in the season…because that’s what the shows that we care about.”

“That’s how life is, right? Like, the good stuff happens at the same time as the bad stuff,” Parham continued.

And to protect the fans who can’t watch the episodes online (or, perhaps, just choose to watch in a more traditional way), St. Clair noted, “We’re going to have to do a PSA about spoilers.”

“I think that’s something that needs to happen,” St. Clair continued. “And people need to talk in code, perhaps…to protect those jammers who are not getting the [episode early] or invite a jammer to your home if you have On Demand and perhaps they’re still using rabbit ears, you know, to watch television.”

“Yeah, a lot of our fans have taken it on as their personal mission to let every one in their friend circle know about the show,” Parham added. “So they send us, like, screen grabs of their thing that says of their phone that says, ‘I converted another one. You got another jammer.'”

“I took a man’s address from Australia and told him I would send him DVDs,” St. Clair shared. “And I was like, ‘I gotta get that in the mail.’ What am I doing? But I promised it to him.”

Now that’s commitment.

PLAYING HOUSE airs Tuesdays at 10 PM on USA Network. And check back next week for more from St. Clair and Parham!
