Someone died on ARROW.

The only problem? When we were shown Oliver mourning at a grave site six months in the future, we  didn’t find out who it was he was grieving.

And it’s possible the writers don’t know, either.

“We don’t necessarily know who it is right now, we’re still figuring the plan out for the season, but we want it, obviously, to have resonance,” ARROW co-showrunner Wendy Mericle told reporters after a recent screening. “If it doesn’t mean something to the characters, it won’t mean anything to the audience either.”

Aside from Oliver’s connection to the death, the significant clue about the doomed person was that THE FLASH’s Barry was supposed to be there — and he apologized to Oliver for being late. Which, in theory, might limit the pool of potential fatalities.

No matter what, ARROW co-showrunner Marc Guggenheim promised, “It’s not a fake-out. That’s not how we roll.”

And since a few characters have come back from the dead/will soon be getting revived, Mericle also confirmed whomever this person is “they will stay dead.”

“We want to bring stakes back to the show, and so we’ll be finding a way to handle the Lazarus Pit portion of season 3 in season 4 in a new, inventive way that I can’t reveal,” she said. “But it’ll be cool.”
