THE ROOKIE – “Free Fall” – As the rookies prepare for a big exam to see who moves on to the next stage of training, Officer Nolan and Officer Bishop are called to the scene of a murder and learn that the victim may be tied to a potential terrorist attack on the city of Los Angeles, on the season finale of “The Rookie,” airing TUESDAY, APRIL 16 (10:00-11:00 p.m. EDT), on The ABC Television Network. THE ROOKIE is undergoing another casting shakeup when season 2 kicks off: Afton Williamson, who played Nolan’s (Nathan Fillion) training officer Talia Bishop, will not be returning. (TVLine was first to report the news.)

But one person who will be sticking around, despite the cliffhanger which found his character collapsing in the episode’s final moment, is Eric Winter’s Tim Bradford.

While Winter teases that fans would have to tune in to watch how the show deals with Bishop’s absence, he expressed confidence in its future. “[Creator] Alexi [Hawley] is fantastic and has a great hold of the show,” he says. “I think everything he has coming up people will enjoy.”

As for how Tim survives his brush with death, Winter was coy. “Everybody knows I’m back on the show, but to what degree? Am I in a coma for five episodes?”

“Tim is a strong guy, he bounces back,” he continues. “He’s coming back with a great storyline, great partner. There’s a hint of love triangles. It’s going to be a fun season. We’re diving a lot more into characters behind the badge this season, even more than the first season.”

And he has a very special guest star he wants to rope into the show’s second season: his wife, Roselyn Sanchez, who is currently starring on ABC’s GRAND HOTEL. (The duo are also co-starring together in the Hallmark film A TASTE OF SUMMER.)

“Alexi is dying to get [her] on,” Winter says. “He’s like, ‘Do you think she’ll do this role?’ And let’s make it a role that counts, where she can jump into it and have fun.”

THE ROOKIE, Season Premiere, Sunday, September 29, 10/9c, ABC
