PITCH fans were buzzing last month when series stars Kylie Bunbury (Ginny Baker) and Mark-Paul Gosselaar (Mike Lawson) revived their characters—albeit socially distanced—for a new Hulu promo touting the show’s streaming home.

It was the latest twist for the short-lived show, which had a roller coaster 2019. After talks started early in the year to revive the series, they fell apart by mid-year.

Though there has been no additional word about the show potentially coming back—and certainly the COVID-19 restrictions on productions, as well as virtually the entire cast being tied up with other projects would make the timing difficult to coordinate—Ali Larter, who played Ginny’s agent, Amelia, still has great affection for the show.

“PITCH was one of those shows that should have gone for six seasons,” Larter laments. “I mean Kylie was incredible; I love her. I love MP, working with Mark [Consuelos]. I mean everyone was so wonderful.”

Larter suspects the show was “a little early” for its time. “I don’t think audiences were quite ready to see a female baseball player in the major league,” she says. “I think that was kind of the crux of it, but it was so much more [than just baseball].”

But thanks to the show’s ten episodes being available to stream and purchase, PITCH really hasn’t gone away.

“What’s incredible about these streaming services is that it’s giving these shows that are really special a chance to find their audience,” Larter says. “For me, to have so many young girls come up and love that show, that’s exciting. And, also, during this time, being a mom myself, you’re looking for shows that you can watch with your kids; you’re looking for something that is inspirational and positive and really fun and that’s what I thought that show did really, really well.”
