Big Sky cody dies

BIG SKY – “Pilot” – While on a road trip to visit her boyfriend in Montana, Danielle Sullivan and her sister Grace are kidnapped by a truck driver on a remote part of the highway, setting off a chain of events that leads private detectives Cody Hoyt and Cassie Dewell to team up with Cody’s estranged wife and ex-cop, Jenny Hoyt, to search for the sisters. But when the investigators discover these are not the only girls who have disappeared in the area, it’s clear they’ve stumbled onto something much bigger than them all on the series premiere of “Big Sky,” TUESDAY, NOV. 17 (10:01-11:00 p.m. EST), on ABC. The BIG SKY series premiere delivered one major, fatal, twist.

Though the promos and marketing indicated the show was centered on Cody Hoyt (Ryan Phillippe), Cassie Dewell (Kylie Bunbury), and Jenny Hoyt (Katheryn Winnick), the final moments found Cody getting brutally killed by Montana state trooper Rick Legarski (John Carroll Lynch)—who was supposed to be helping the P.I. investigate the disappearance of two young girls.

“Yeah, I was shocked,” Phillippe said during a panel to promote the series. “And I think that’s also what made me so excited about it. So often in entertainment, you can see what’s coming a mile away. And to have moments in a series like this where it kind of takes your breath away, or you’re absolutely shocked and don’t see it coming, that’s exciting to be a part of it.”

Bunbury and Winnick, who discovered the twist when they read the pilot script, admitted they were blown away by the reveal, too. “‘Whoa, Ryan’s fans are going to be pretty pissed,'” Bunbury jokingly recalled of her reaction.

“It’s such an interesting way to really open up a series,” Winnick pointed out. “There’s true love, in a lot of different ways, between the three of us, and to have that ending…whoa, nobody expected that.”

The moment was also darker than many ABC series have gone in recent years, something which could immediately set them apart from other network shows. “I feel like it’s a real opening for ABC, showing that they want to go for a little bit more of an edgier or a more cable feel,” Bunbury said. “I think we gave that to them episode 1.”

“And I think it sends the message that in a series like this, no one is safe,” Phillippe added. “So you really have to pay attention. You have to hope you that the people you love stick around.”

But though Cody met his end in the premiere, “I will say it’s not the last you’ll see or hear of me,” Phillippe teased.

Did you see that BIG SKY twist coming?

Looked forward to a new Kelley show, WITH Ryan Philleppe. Wasted an hour of my time watching red neck Montanna scenario only to be WTF’D at the end! Will not be tuning in next week. Shame on you, Mr. Kelley. Pretty pissed? How bout mad as hell! If you have to do a bait and switch to get people to watch your show. might want to just skip it next time?
