THE MASKED SINGER and SEAL TEAM

THE MASKED SINGER: L-R: Mushroom, Sun and Crocodile in the special two-hour “The Road To the Finals -The Last Mask Standing” season four finale episode of THE MASKED SINGER airing Wednesday, Dec. 16 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. CR: Michael Becker/FOX. © 2021 FOX Media LLC.

Let’s talk about Wednesday night’s TV!

THE MASKED SINGER: What a great finale? Having three (spoiler alert?) professional singers in the final episode made it so it was a really strong performance showcase for the three.

I do love that the Sun performed a song she had already recorded years earlier. (I have now listened to it way too many times.) The ’90s kid in me is absolutely horrified I did not recognize the Crocodile given my fierce love for his boy band. (Bad fan.) And Mushroom was a great surprise, because so many of the early clues were leaning so heavily toward it being a Broadway performer. But, really, what a great season. Arguably the best in terms of both pure talent and also household names. (Here are the three revealed contestants.)

SEAL TEAM: While I would have loved the team to have a bit more time in their new normal—or at least more time with us seeing their struggle to adjust since we jumped forward two months last week—it absolutely makes sense why they would jump into action as soon as Ray was in danger.

I don’t want anything worse to happen to Ray (please, please, please, writers?), but I also appreciated it wasn’t a quick in and out mission to save him. If this is going to be something that actually brings the team back together, in a real way, it has to be a longer process both for them to get back into the groove of things and also to prove to the higher ups why they’re all really needed. Though, outside of Ray’s return, my next worry is that Jason is going to torture himself for being that close to Ray and not being able to save him in time until the moment they’re reunited.
