Watch Benson and Stabler Reunite in New LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT-ORGANIZED CRIME Crossover Promo

After almost a decade apart, former partners Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni) are about to reunite…on the very next episode of LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT.

Though Stabler will be anchoring the new SVU spinoff LAW & ORDER: ORGANIZED CRIME, he’ll first make his return to the L&O universe in the Thursday, April 1 hour of SVU, “Return of the Prodigal Son” at 9/8c, before the crossover block continues with ORGANIZED CRIME’s premiere, “What Happens in Puglia,” at 10/9c.

In the first official promo for the crossover (ORGANIZED CRIME got its initial spot last week), the history of the duo’s relationship was touched on—using Olivia’s words about Elliot from the time they were assessed to determine if they were too close/suitable to remain partners—leading to a scene where Cragen (Dann Florek) told Olivia that Elliot had put in his papers. (When contract negotiations fell through, Meloni exited SVU after season 12; the show had Elliot quit the force after a good shot, but cut off all contact with Olivia—outside of a note, his mini badge, and a Semper Fi medal in a deleted scene.)

But then it cut to new footage: as emergency personnel tried to contain the aftermath of an apparent car explosion, Olivia stood amidst the wreckage when Elliot called out, “Liv.” 

A shocked, emotional, Olivia whipped around: “Elliot.”

While many details of ORGANIZED CRIME are being close to the vest, NBC has teased that Stabler “returns to the NYPD to battle organized crime after a devastating personal loss. Stabler will aim to rebuild his life as part of a new elite task force that is taking apart the city’s most powerful criminal syndicates one by one.” The series also stars Dylan McDermott, Tamara Taylor, Danielle Moné Truitt, and Ainsley Seiger, with Ilene Chaiken showrunning.
