After receiving bad news about his girlfriend/colleague Rina (Kathleen Munroe)—who has been hospitalized for weeks after being shot as part of Vargas’ (David Zayas) revenge plot—FBI’s Jubal (Jeremy Sisto) is tasked with trying to get to the bottom of a kidnapping case.

The Tuesday, January 11 hour, “Grief,” tells “a second story of the grief process that Jubal’s going through with his reaction to Rina being wounded,” Sisto previews. “It’s a helplessness.”

For Jubal, he focuses his attention on the father of a prior kidnapping victim, thinking the man might have insight into their suspect that could help with their current case. “He is misguided, actually, in how he’s going about the case,” Sisto previously teased. “Not nuts, not to a level that is that necessarily betrays who he is, to his core, but it definitely creates a situation that is not what he was intending.”

As he’s juggling that, he also meets with Rina’s mother, Nicole (Kathleen Garrett), who shares some insight into her daughter’s relationship with Jubal that even he didn’t know.

“[It’s] just the challenge of continuing to do this job,” Sisto acknowledges. “Yes, you can take time off for psychological [breaks], but anyone in this profession is pretty good at coping. They’re going to push themselves to get back to work and also very used to having a job that takes up a lot of headspace.”

Though Jubal may be struggling, Sisto has been enjoying getting to portray his character’s layers. “It’s been cool,” he says. “It’s been great to have a storyline that feels deep and complex. Like we’re trying to tell some honest, psychological character stuff within a really exciting, action-packed show—without betraying any of that. As an actor, I feel grateful that they’ve gone for it.”
