CHICAGO P.D.: LaRoyce Hawkins Previews Atwater’s Connection with an Informant

On the Wednesday, January 12 episode of CHICAGO P.D., “Lies,” Atwater (LaRoyce Hawkins) finds himself in deep with a potential informant, Jimmy…and the stakes are high.

“We get to take a peek into that element of Atwater that connects him to the most authentic parts of the hood, which is the most effective, where the people need the most help,”  previews Hawkins. “What’s interesting about their relationship is that I think Atwater finds an opportunity to honestly help [Jimmy] more than he’s hurting him in the process of shaping him as as an informant.”

“Atwater has seen the genuine love that he has for his little brother; Atwater understands how important it is for him to get out of the game, eventually,” he continues. “I think that’s rare. You don’t always see that. So when you do see that, you want to give them the opportunity—the kind of opportunity that anybody would appreciate. The same kind of grace that anyone deserves.”

Fans will also get an update on Atwater’s relationship with Celeste (Amanda Payton), who was introduced in “Burnside”—though she’s still in the dark about the fact he’s a cop.

“You can tell they’ve been kickin’ it; they’ve been hanging out,” Hawkins teases. “I’m grateful for wardrobe and [showrunner] Gwen [Sigan], who had to create a vision…to give a representation through the storytelling of wardrobe of how safe they obviously feel with each other. How comfortable they are with each other.”

“They’ve been…enjoying themselves and having a great time, seeing each other’s light and potential,” he continues. “And so that’s how we see them, that’s how this opens up: with something that shows a lot of potential and growth, which I think is dope.”
