CHICAGO FIRE said goodbye to Severide (Taylor Kinney)—temporarily—with the Wednesday, March 1 hour, “Damage Control.”

On the Wednesday, February 22 episode, Severide showed up at Molly’s with a mysterious message from Van Meter (Tom Hopper). Stella (Miranda Rae Mayo) asked her husband what he was going to do.

In “Damage Control,” viewers saw Stella alone at her apartment. And when Van Meter showed up at Firehouse 51, he apologized to Boden (Eamonn Walker) for nabbing Severide with a day’s notice. But, Van Meter defended himself, noting Severide could have said no if he wanted to, and he was at “the best arson training investigation in the world.”

Elsewhere in the firehouse, Brett (Kara Killmer) expressed sympathy for Kidd, noting how hard it was to maintain a long-distance relationship. (Severide’s training is in Alabama.)

Kinney took a hiatus from the series in January to deal with a personal matter. There has not been word yet about when he’ll return to the show.

CHICAGO FIRE, Wednesdays, 9/8c, NBC
