ABC Renews GREY’S ANATOMY

GREY’S ANATOMY will return for a 20th season, ABC announced.

Meg Marinis, who has been with the series since season 3, will take over as showrunner. (Krista Vernoff is stepping down from GA and STATION 19 at the end of the season.) Marinis started with the series as a writers’ production assistant, while also serving as writers’ assistant and medical researcher before being promoted to staff writer. She has been an executive producer since season 15.
It’s been a season of change for the medical drama, with season 19 also serving as the end of Ellen Pompeo’s run on the show as a regular playing Meredith Grey. (Pompeo continues to do voiceover work for the show, and will return later this season in a guest star capacity.) Longtime co-star Kelly McCreary is also exiting later this season.
GREY’S ANATOMY’s season finale will air Thursday, May 18.
