“No Way Out” – Aunt Vi enlists the help of McCall and the team when she realizes her masseuse is a victim of domestic abuse. Also, McCall trains Dee on situational awareness and Dante goes against orders by chasing after the man who shot his friend Manny, on the CBS Original series THE EQUALIZER, Sunday, April 23 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and available to stream live and on demand on Paramount+. On the Sunday, April 23 episode of THE EQUALIZER, Aunt Vi’s (Lorraine Toussaint) planned relaxing massage takes a turn when she realizes her masseuse is badly injured.

Aunt Vi tries to encourage the woman, Angie—whom she considers a friend—to get treated, but the woman minimizes it…until her husband shows up. Aunt Vi is surprised when the husband claims to have not known about the injury, but he echoes her insistence she should be treated by a doctor.

After, Aunt Vi calls Robyn (Queen Latifah) to relay what went down.

“Her arm is badly bruised,” Aunt Vi tells Robyn in the exclusive clip from “No Way Out” below. “And given how swollen it was, I say it might even be broken. But you know what was odd? Her husband stopped by with lunch and claimed he didn’t know anything about it.”

“Any reason she would hide an injury from her husband?” Robyn asks.

“Not that I know of,” Aunt Vi replies. “But…”

“You think there’s something else going on,” Robyn answers.

Aunt Vi initially tries to hedge, pointing out that the husband, Doug, seemed “genuinely concerned”—but Angie was odd around him. “She was almost, I don’t know—scared,” Aunt Vi acknowledges.

“You suspect there’s abuse involved,” Robyn guesses.

Aunt Vi says she could be overreacting, but Robyn brushes that off. “You’ve got good instincts, Aunt Vi,” she says. “You should trust them.”

Robyn has her own suggestion: Aunt Vi should call Harry to look into the husband. “Abusers don’t turn violent overnight,” Robyn points out. “Maybe there’s a history.”

Of note, this hour serves as one of Toussaint’s best performances of the series. And it once again showcases why THE EQUALIZER is one of the best shows at highlighting timely issues. (Recent episodes have discused the impact of hate crimes, racial bias in policing and police brutality, as well as exploring the rise in antisemitism.)
