THE VOICE and THE ROOKIE

THE ROOKIE – “Trouble in Paradise” Nolan and Bailey’s honeymoon is more of a nightmare than dream when it turns into an active crime scene. Meanwhile, Tim and Celina partner up and must uncover the identity of a John Doe. TUESDAY, MARCH 5 (9:00-10:00 p.m. EST), on ABC. (Disney/Raymond Liu)

Let’s talk about Tuesday night’s TV!

THE VOICE: A really solid episode for an hour-long installment. Anya, William, and Alyssa were all good. Mafe was a great four-chair turn, and I’m excited to see what she does on Team Legen.

I’m still a little unsure about the coach dynamic, but John saying he “needs somebody” and then a couple of the coaches singing King of Leon’s “Use Somebody” was very cute. (I’m also curious if Chance punting to John re: Mafe ends up paying off for him at some point, either in another four-chair turn or during a Battle/Knockout steal attempt…)

THE ROOKIE: Oh, I loved the Tim/Lucy/Celina dynamic. (Including Tim losing his mind a little when they almost talked about boys. Hey, at least they weren’t talking about him.)

My heart breaks for Lucy, though, who has been so prepared, only for the detective test to feel kind of like a scam? They called her in so early, made her wait, and then finally brought her in…only to basically minimize and dismiss her from the start. It’s not a surprise she ranked 17th, but ouch. She deserved/deserves better. (Tim buying a 1st place trophy because he was sure that’s where she would rank—only to change it to 17 when he found out—was absolutely precious, though.)

I tend to like the swings the show takes with the format, but I didn’t love the camera gimmick with the honeymoon. It could have been interesting if the majority/all of the episode was done in that way, but it just being that subplot didn’t work for me. Lopez and Harper jumping on the plane to go help Nolan and Bailey, though? Perfect.
