PSYCH 3 Officially Ordered

Break out your best pineapple: PSYCH 3 is officially on its way.

PSYCH 3: THIS IS GUS will start production in June, with a planned release on Peacock. Franchise stars James Roday Rodriguez, Dulé Hill, Maggie Lawson, Timothy Omundson, Corbin Bernsen, and Kirsten Nelson are all set to return, with creator Steve Franks once again directing.

In THIS IS GUS, “In preparation for a shotgun wedding before the birth of Baby Guster, Shawn (James Roday Rodriguez) and Groomzilla Gus (Dulé Hill) go rogue in an attempt to track down Selene’s (Jazmyn Simon) estranged husband, as Lassiter (Timothy Omundson) grapples with the future of his career.”

The second film, PSYCH 2: LASSIE COME HOME, concluded with Gus (Hill) learning he was about to be a dad—but his wife, Selene (Jazmyn Simon), revealed she was technically married to someone else. But at the time, Franks was coy about whether they’d actually pick up with that in the potential third film.

“James[, who co-wrote the film,] and I, we were riffing on the set, ‘Oh my gosh, okay, so, Selene’s husband is this guy,’” Franks shared last year. “And James, of course, goes off the rails, and he’s pitching wrestlers, actors who may not still be alive [to play this mysterious man]. It’s a really fun concept. But if you remember, the end of the first PSYCH movie had us running off with John Cena and we only, very briefly, make an illusion to that [in the sequel].”

PSYCH 3: THIS IS GUS also marks the first film made for the streaming platform. Though PSYCH 2 helped launch Peacock, the film was crafted for USA Network, and was essentially locked when they learned it would be held for an online audience.

“Writing the next one, should we be so lucky and fortunate to make the next four of these, it’ll be fantastic, because we’ll be writing to where the story fits, not to where the next commercial fits,” Franks said at the time. “That makes me excited—all the possibilities.”
