On March 9, 2009, a ruggedly handsome mystery author and a badass NYPD detective quasi-reluctantly teamed up to solve crime. Over eight seasons of CASTLE, Richard Castle (Nathan Fillion) and Kate Beckett (Stana Katic) bickered, bantered, fell in love, got married, and started their own family—albeit with some major twists and turns along the way. (Though the series’ 2016 finale wasn’t planned, the showrunners shot an alternate ending which they placed at the end of the episode instead of a cliffhanger.)

For Fillion, who got his first real big break on ABC’s ONE LIFE TO LIVE, the series continued his long-relationship with the network. (He had also been on DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES and TWO GUYS AND A GIRL prior to CASTLE; post-CASTLE, he’s appeared on MODERN FAMILY, AMERICAN HOUSEWIFE, and reunited with CASTLE’s Alexi Hawley on THE ROOKIE.) But, as he acknowledges in the video below, the 173 episodes he did of the Andrew Marlowe-created series is his “greatest success, in a lot of ways.”
