FRINGE: J.H. Wyman Teases 'A Short Story About Love' - Give Me My Remote : Give Me My Remote

FRINGE: J.H. Wyman Teases ‘A Short Story About Love’

March 2, 2012 by

There’s no new episode of FRINGE tonight (the show returns with brand new episodes March 23rd), but that doesn’t mean we can’t look forward to what’s to come, right?

To help make the mini-hiatus a little bit easier, I asked executive producer J.H. Wyman what he could tease about the next hour of the series — which just happens to be the first episode he’s directed of the show.

“I think that we feel that it is definitely terrifying,” he said. “You know, the character played by Michael Massee is terrifying. But it’s also very romantic. It’s a culmination of what I could describe as — it’s a direction where we’ve been heading and I think the fans will be really happy and satisfied. But it’s a scary episode.”

On a show like FRINGE, how scary does the baddie need to be in order to be considered scary?

“It’s definitely one of the most frightening bad guys we’ve had,” Wyman teased. “But the title [of the episode] says it all — it’s ‘A Short Story About Love.'”

Oh, FRINGE. Of course one of the most frightening bad guys would be put in an episode that is also about love.

“That’s right,” Wyman laughed. “I think you’ll understand, it’s all about motivation. Love is a great motivator, for good and evil.”

Hm. The teaser for the episode was pretty darn vague, so what do you think will happen in the episode?

Just as long there is no Lincoln/Olivia love then I am down with this “scary” episode.

I hope that Peter will find his Olivia, even if it has to scare the heebee jeebees out of us, IT NEEDS TO HAPPEN ALREADY!

Can you be to have a vague idea how the episode will be, by the accounts of Wyman. But is having super expressive actor Michael Massee, and has love involved, perhaps it is something along the line, or an argument of an adult conception of the atmosphere of a scary version of “Beauty and the Beast,” which occurs in the dark corners of the Fringe´s universes, more or less that way. Let’s wait and see. 🙂

The promo strikes me as “The Phantom of the Opera” kind of thing…can’t wait to see how Fringe will play it!

I would like to think that the big bad guy is Olivia’s stepdad, as blue Olivia will be the one we will see at the end, and blue Olivia never likked him.
But since Olivia has become an object it will turn out that her being back original will be Peter being home.

Already suggested in 4.13, that Olivia has this empathy thanks to cortexiphan that she can be whatever someone wants her to be.
So Olivia will be blue Olivia for him, but Nina wants her to a daughter and Walter as well, so who we will win? And who else wants a piece of Olivia?

    Finally:

I would like to know how espeially Anna Torv and John Noble feel about the superstar treatment mr Jackson gets.
I am pretty certain that they both have had offers, but being professionals they are working hard on Fringe and promoting Fringe in their free time.
And the Dark Matters and College Humour were done in their free time as well.

I also think that they both expected this season to be different, see their interviews at Comic Con, and that having your character more ar less destroyed since Firefly season 3, in the case of Olivia, must be hard to go through.

Like I said elsewhere: if you have an entire season taylor made for you and peter central as Jackson now has, it is insulting to the writers and cast and crew to then force them to adjust to your schedule.
It also shows his disdain for his co-stars.

And for those who think this is not insulting:
See how the cast of House was sick of the Wilde question, Greys anatomy of the Heigl, etc etc,

I hugely admire especially Anna Torv (who gets all the abuse from the Jackson fans thanks to his comments in the media) and also Jasika Nicole, Blair Brown, Lance Reddick, John Noble and Seth Gabel for the way they put up with Jacksons antics and the media obsession with him.

My final rant, as I hate the storylines in how it treats Olivia, and I just watch the rest of Fringe to admire the genius of Anna Torv.

I hope we will get a renewal.

    “Romantic”

    SIGH

Can’t wait to see how this Peter and Olivia turns out

  9. bebe on March 6th, 2012 3:26 pm

I just hope Peter finds his Olivia real soon and gets back to his universe. I liked walter there better and want Olivia and Peter back together.

  10. Neil on March 6th, 2012 4:09 pm

Okay here’s my take on the teaser….This terribly misfigured guy appears to kill people who have lost their loved one and are in grief. By extending this throughout the hour I surmise Mr. Evil will try to kill Olivia because she is losing Peter. Peter will have to come to her rescue to save her. Enter romance. Let’s see how close I am in a couple of weeks.

  11. Elliot on March 6th, 2012 4:55 pm

Oh, yeah, Neil, I could def. see it playing out that way! And it would leave it open-ended for Fringe on whether or not this is the real Olivia, too. Josh’s recent quotes about Peter rescuing any version of Olivia–or of Faux– also give weight to your theory.

I do hope they clear it up for good, though, who is who; the is she or isn’t she thing is way old now.

  12. Mark on March 6th, 2012 6:31 pm

I’m confused by reading the comments here… Peter is home, that isss “his Olivia”.
He was just removed from the current timeline via the Observers, erasing the memories and events that he was involved in. And now by being dosed Olivia is remembering these events.

  13. Elliot on March 6th, 2012 7:52 pm

Mark: Will that dosing make the stepdad undead then? And Alt-Broyles dead? And send Lincoln back to the partner who is no longer dead, instead of being on the Fringe team?

  14. Christina on March 6th, 2012 9:11 pm

Mark is right. When Peter stepped into the machine he was supposed to be wiped from existence. If you saw the episode where Peter spoke with the observer you found out that the only problem with Peter being wiped away from everything is that his baby could never be born. Apparently this baby is very important to the future. It was born to the wrong Olivia before Peter disappeared and this had to be corrected.

I think Fring’s producers or casts are keeping hints or the story too tight, and gradually lose its audience and hence the ratings. Dieheart fans are good, but the show is meant for entertainment, not an piece of artwork. They should try to let go more in a way to attract general public “want” to watch it week after week. This is my two-cents.

  16. Zepp on March 7th, 2012 3:37 pm

I agree that Fringe, over time, has been losing audience numbers, I think so too. But I also think that Fringe is not a show for multitudes generalized to achieve stupendous ratings. All this, I feel, is due to the profile of its multifaceted plot, which is very peculiar and complex, I assume. But note that this loyal audience (3 to 3,2 millions live, and others millions in the DVR), which comes Fringe, is in the range of those who have higher purchasing power, and that also has the largest education levels, and this is a band from the market, which is highly sought after by advertisers who are highly respected business, I see. I would say it is a piece of artwork, with a specific audience, high purchasing power, well-defined. Just direct attention, in commercials, which occur in the intervals between presentations of the episodes of Fringe, where companies appear to products and services, with high commercial reputation, are systematically advertising. I can not affirm, but all it takes to have a 5th season for Fringe, I hope.
