Kellie Pickler Breaks Down at the CMA Awards (Video)

November 8, 2007 by

Former AMERICAN IDOL star, Kellie Pickler, broke down in tears near the end of her performance of “I Wonder” during last night’s Country Music Awards. The song, written about her mother who abandoned Kellie at 2, was emotional not only for Pickler but for most of the audience who rose in an ovation at the end of the performance.

Fellow AMERICAN IDOL star Carrie Underwood was a big winner taking home the award for Single of the Year for “Before He Cheats” and Female Vocalist of the Year.

Kellie Pickler’s mom, Cynthia Malone, who until now has been the “missing mother” speaks out for the first time! Cynthia, in a soft voice, reveals why she left Kellie at the age of two.

Ironically, this interview was first shown on WGHP Fox 8 High Point as Kellie was taking the stage live in Nashville, Tennessee to perform “I Wonder” at the Country Music Awards.

The beautiful gut-wrenching song which Kellie wrote about her mom brought the CMA crowd to their feet and Kellie to tears as she barely spoke the final phrase, “I’m in Tennessee.”

I’ve always found anyone who ever makes such an inane comment as finding Kellie “annoying during Idol” is usually nothing more than a jealous fan of another Idol contestant who never could come to turns with Kellie outshining their favorite on the show. To them I say “your loss” because everyone else like myself found Kellie anything but annoying when she was on the show.

As for Kellie at the CMA’s, I think her performance proves what the country music industry and the award shows knew all along, that if Kellie is “allowed” to perform among her peers that she will outshine them and show who truly is the hottest new female in country music today. It’s no wonder that all the prior award shows refused to let her perform even though she was the best selling new country singer, because then everyone would have seen that the awards were being given to singers who didn’t deserve as much, just as the CMA’s found out for themselves. Even the CMA’s couldn’t handle letting the music fans see Kellie without trying to sabotage her performance by not keeping the light on her. Not that it mattered because Kellie still stole the show.

As the entertainer of the year Kenny Chesney said when an interviewer asked him what he thought the highlight of the 3 hour long show was, his answer was simple, “Kellie Pickler nailed it, I think it was the biggest moment of the show”. How right you are Kenny, how right you are.

Would have been an astonishing performance even without the tears. What a truly beautiful song. The fact that she broke down was just the icing on the cake. She certainly didn’t leave anything on the table. I doubt that I’ll ever delete it from my tivo.
