The 2008 Golden Globe Winners Are…

January 14, 2008 by

Talk about anti-climactic – the 2008 Golden Globe Awards were presented tonight and it was a snoooooozefest.  In place of the glitz and glamour that the stars on the red carpet normally provide, we had the “personalities” from TV entertainment news shows like Access Hollywood, Entertainment Tonight announcing the winners. As sad and depressing as it was for us watching from home (or in my case on board Virgin America Airlines), can you imagine how it was for the winners…especially those who won for the first time?  Geesh.

There were definitely a few surprises tonight.  The good? MAD MEN and its star Jon Hamm taking home top honors in the Drama categories as well as Tina Fey taking home the award for Best Actress in a Comedy.  I had hoped EXTRAS would pull out the win for Best Comedy but I wasn’t convinced – so yay! And the not so good surprises?  How about David Duchovney taking home the award for Best Actor in a Comedy…say what?  Also not surprising was Glenn Close‘s Best Actress award (was there ever any doubt?)

I didn’t care much for the news conference, but when Tina Fey’s name was announced as winner, it was then that I really wish there was an awards show just to hear her acceptance speech for her first acting win.

I agree with Jules, I miss Tina Fey’s speech, althought I’m very happy for her, I love 30 Rock.

Yeah, nothing I watch won. Oh well. I didn’t watch them and am glad of it

Very boring telecast, but happy for Tina Fey, Glenn Close, and Jon Hamm. Although I thought that Mad Men was very good, I don’t think it was as uniformly strong as some of the other contenders. But congrats to them. No surprise about Extras, the Globes honored The Office when it was still relatively unknown. Here’s hoping that the Oscars don’t come to the same dreary fate.

Had a hard time taking them seriously when I saw some of the nominees. William Shatner for Best Supporting Actor – TV? Are you KIDDING me?

Consistently, the most brilliant work in that category was turned in by John Krasinski and Jenna Fischer in ‘The Office’. When neither of them even got nominated I stopped caring about the GGs.

Very, very boring awards show. I was only able to watch the ones with Access Hollywood, and good gracious did it suck.

Very sad to see that Lee, Anna, and Pushing Daisies didn’t win the awards it so deserves. But I am almost okay with Tina Fey stealing Anna’s award. Tina Fey rocks at everything she does.

Being a Canadian with basic cable, there were a TON of shows and actors I had never even heard of, and this made me angrier about their wins. Too bad nobody consulted me.

Happy for Liz Lemon. Very happy for Extras. The Office will hopefully have many more chances to win (being on the air for 8 more years!). I love Ricky Gervais. I would have loved to see him win. I heard David Duch. is hilarious in his role but I haven’t seen it. Glad to see it’s not just a popularity contest. I wish Rose Byrne would have won for Damages. That show is like an extra long suspense feature film. Very good show! I just miss my Chuck and Life and The Office. And it’s winter. sigh

I’m glad the annoucements were over in 30 min so I could get on with my night. Although, being on the west coast, we actually did have the option to watch the TAPE DELAYED version on NBC in primetime with (no doubt) commercials added. What, am I really that dumb? Yes, it’s on 47 other channels at 6pm, but I’m going to wait until 8pm to catch it tape delayed. Ha-ha. Thank you to the Hollywood Foreign Press for taking over and letting the other channels get involved. I wish that was the format every year (quick with no song and dance), but with the winners present.

Supporting actor roles are the toughest, since, obviously there are more supporting characters than lead characters out there. Hopefully Jim and Pam will get a chance to do some “flashback” episodes to when they first started dating and get some funny and emotional scripts so that they will catch the voters attention!!!!!
