David Archuleta Singing “When You Believe” (Video)

April 15, 2008 by

The girls were swooning tonight (as usual) when David Archuleta took to stage with Mariah’s “When You Believe”. I’m going to get in big trouble for saying this, but I’m becoming less and less enamored with David as the contest goes on. The boy can sign but he doesn’t stand out like he once did…at least not to me.

Were you a swooner?

I feel the same way about him. Yeah he can sing but he’s pretty boring. David Cook is the one who stands out the most for me. Jason Castro is a close second.

I’m not bored with him. I mean he’s only 17 and still figuring out what he wants to do with his music. Cook is older and know what he wants so he’s got the advantage. Archuleta just wants to sing, you can’t bag him for that.

As long as I know David Cook and David Archuleta are going to be in the finale, it’s all good.

I totally agree! He’s talented yeah, but every time I watch him, I feel like I’m watching the most talented high schooler in the talent show. He peaked too early, with Imagine.

I miss Michael. I don’t really feel strongly about any of the remaining people. (Except for my extreme HATRED of Sayesha….sorry, GMMR)

Thank you! I was beginning to think I was the only one who didn’t LOVE David A. I actually am beginning to be a little annoyed by him. Not that he isn’t talented, which he is. He can sing. But he continues to pick the big “inspirational” SLOW songs. Over and over. I haven’t seen him take a risk yet.

I was put off initially when he sang a song about homelessness in the top 24 round and afterwards said he wanted to draw attention to the problem of homelessness, because its an important issue. It seemed fake (a little too Miss America pagenty) and irked me for some reason.

Positive note: LOVE David Cook. 🙂

I don’t think he can compare to some of the other contestants creatively. Yes, he can sing (even though the raspy sound of his voice grates on my nerves). But when you look at how a number of other contestants are willing to take risks and really do a different version of a song, I think he just pales in comparison.

I completely agree GMMR! (Although he started impressing me less and less weeks ago.) He’s a great singer, no doubt but I see him more as a broadway singer. What kind of album would he even make? All ballads. That wouldn’t get the air time on the radio that songs by David Cook or Jason Castro would get.

There’s another David in the competition? I only saw my man, David Cook 🙂

He’s become boring squared. He was a cute and inspiring story at first, but then news started coming out that he isn’t “new” to singing and that for a 17 year old he has a pretty impressive career so far.

He has a serious case of Doolittle-itis. Named after Season 6’s Melinda. Symptoms include: chronic smiling, faux humbleness and a general abundance of fake-ness all around.

That raspy 80 year old smoker voice destroys everything that comes out of his mouth. He annoys me whenever he’s on screen.

David ARchuleta is the one to beat this year. Incredible talent. For those who think he is boring, have no appreciation of fresh young vocals. We are all so used to people shouting their music to us and see CD’s displayed with explicit material. If that is your style, knock yourselves out, I find that offensive. David Cook is good, but he is still shouting his music. Why people compare the two is amazing. They do not represent the same style of music. Like comparing vanila and chocolate. We love David A because he brings not only incredible vocals, but a fresh clean cut young face to the younger and older generation (I am part of the older generation), if you think that is boring, perhaps you should learn how to appreciate great singers like we did in the past. Go David Archuleta you are what an American Idol should be in this country. We love you. Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, they are great vocalists that is why they are divas. David A is on his way.
