DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES: Crime Doesn’t Pay

March 9, 2009 by

Hey everyone! I hope you’ve had a great couple of weeks. Desperate Housewives is back this week after a short winter break and some major developments are getting set into motion.

Katherine and Susan are trying to remain friends even though Katherine has just moved in with Mike. All goes well until Susan spots a painting of a beach from her and Mike’s honeymoon over Katherine’s fireplace. When Susan gives Katherine the back-story on the painting Katherine takes it down. At first, Susan is upset and goes to Mike but she then realizes how hard this situation is on Katherine. In a surprisingly mature act, Susan storms over to Mike’s and insists that he give the painting back. Katherine, of course, is grateful that Susan is backing off of the situation. I was extremely proud of Susan after this. She’s really taken a turn for the better this season. It seems like losing Mike has helped her grow up.

Tom has lost the pizzeria and is having a close out sale to help make some money back. He and Lynette are in dire financial straits and Bree is kind enough to set up an informal job interview for Tom. Tom, however, is ungrateful and childish as usual. He shows no interest in the interview until Lynette jumps in to try to get the job. Then, of course, Tom is interested in the job and goes on the offensive against Lynette. Neither of them gets the job but they do come to the realization that they need to work together. At the risk of sounding like a broken record, Tom is probably one of the most annoying characters on television. All he does is whine. He needs to either grow up or leave the show.

As a side note, Orson seems to have acquired kleptomania. Throughout the episode he steals from Tom, Bree, and the man interviewing Tom. It almost feels like they’re setting Orson up for a health scare a la Izzy from Grey’s Anatomy. I’m interested to see where this goes.

Things have come to a head with Gabby and Bradley. Gabby no longer feels comfortable lying to Maria and tells Bradley he has to come clean. He does and Maria stabs him to death at the end of the episode. I have a feeling that this is going to cause some major tension for Carlos and Gabby. Since Gabby is the one who insisted that Bradley tell Maria about his affair, I think that she is likely to blame herself for what happened. I’m excited for this storyline and can’t wait for next week to find out what happens.

Edie has discovered that Dave is lying about his last name, which is really Dash, not Williams. It seems like Edie is about to get to the bottom of this. I’m anxious to see if that contributes to her (SPOILER ALERT) death in April.

Tell me what you think below!

Tricia is your Desperate Housewives girl this year. She’s from upstate New York and is currently a freshman in college. She’s also a hardcore TV fan; check out her homemade TV schedule: http://www.flickr.com/photos/27093551@N08/2782207387/

Thanks for another great recap, Tricia. Sunday nights are usually busy for me so I don’t often get around to watching DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES, but I’m always up on the show because I always read your reviews.

It always bothered me that they had Orson behaving so ‘normally’. I mean, he ran Mike over with his car ON PURPOSE. Dude is crazy – always has been. I think we’ll see that spiral back around into the story again…
