Tonight’s TV Spotlight…Thursday, March 26, 2009

March 26, 2009 by

The suits over at ABC can’t be too happy with the President right now. His press conference caused chaos on the TV schedule which resulted in tonight’s AMERICAN IDOL results show going head-to-head with ABC’s new comedy IN THE MOTHERHOOD and returning darling SAMANTHA WHO.

I haven’t had a chance to see IN THE MOTHERHOOD yet, but I did see some of the webseries it was based on last Spring at the Upfronts and I thought it was hilarious. I’ll try to check it out tonight, but I’ll be ‘in the motherhood’ myself…babysitting, so I don’t know if I’ll be able to watch.  Watch for me in case I can’t.

Question – Why did Fox bump BONES tonight? They could have easily aired the episode at 8pm and aired the IDOL results show at 9pm (bumping HELL’S KITCHEN).  I would think that Fox would like to take a solid swing at the Thursday 9pm competition. Odd.

Anyway, here’s a few highlights from tonight’s schedule.

In the Motherhood | 8pm on ABC | Series Premiere
“It Takes a Village Idiot”
Jane, finally back in the dating pool, worries she won’t remember the basics of courtship; Rosemary pretends to be pregnant; Emily shares the truth about some childhood myths with her preschool-age son.

American Idol | 8pm on Fox
One contestant is eliminated; Smokey Robinson and former “American Idol” winner Ruben Studdard perform.[GMMR: Did you watch last night? Who will be going home? Share your thoughts here.]

Smallville | 8pm on The CW
“Hex”
The magician Zatanna (Serinda Swan) comes to town and grants Chloe’s birthday wish to be more like Lois, resulting in the two switching bodies. She also grants Clark his deepest wish.

Samantha Who | 8:30pm on ABC | Season Premiere
“My Best Friend’s Boyfriend”
When Todd and Samantha go on a double date with Andrea and Tony Dane, Todd makes an awkward discovery; Dena inadvertently begins an online relationship with a lonely soldier.

The Office | 9pm on NBC
“Two Weeks”
Michael’s relationship with the new vice president (Idris Elba) becomes more and more strained, but that doesn’t stop Michael from shirking work and responsibility even more than usual. Meanwhile, Pam falls victim to the new copier; and Kelly develops yet another crush.

Supernatural | 9pm on The CW
It’s a Terrible Life”
Sam and Dean live normal, separate lives but they don’t seem to know each other, even though they work at the same company. However, when colleagues start committing suicide, they team up to investigate the situation. [GMMR: Nicole’s interview with Misha Collins (Castiel) had to be postponed until next month due to Misha’s schedule. Thanks for your questions and keep ’em coming.]

Grey’s Anatomy | 9pm on ABC
“Elevator Love Letter”
While Derek prepares to perform his first surgery since his breakdown, Izzie must undergo one. Meanwhile, Owen has another PTSD episode, which injures Cristina, traumatizes both of them and throws their relationship into question.

30 Rock | 9:30pm on NBC
“Apollo, Apollo”
Jack plans his 50th birthday party; Liz’s ex-boyfriend, Dennis, makes a confession that stirs up drama between Jenna and Liz; Pete and Kenneth try to make Tracy’s childhood dream come true. [GMMR: The return of Dennis…YES!]

Private Practice | 10pm on ABC
“Do the Right Thing”
Cooper struggles with a patient’s mother because she allows her 12-year-old daughter to be sexually active. Pete begins dating his patient’s mom, arousing jealousy in Violet. Meanwhile, Sam must testify at a colleague’s malpractice trial; and Addison continues to fight her feelings for Noah (Josh Hopkins).

ER | 10pm on NBC
“I Feel Good”
Several of the ER doctors and nurses help out at a camp for kids who have had open heart surgery; a woman comes back for the child she abandoned in the ER.

Also playing…

  • My Name is Earl | 8:00pm on NBC: When Dodge develops feelings for a girl in the neighborhood, Randy is reminded of his first love, Pinky.
  • Hells Kitchen | 9:00pm on Fox: Ramsay tests the chefs’ palates; celebrity diners (Eric McCormack and Robert Patrick) stop by for dinner, bringing tensions to a boil.

Didn’t Fox announce they were going to show the rest of Bones with no breaks for the season — what happened to that? I heard there was talk of bumping the finale to next season, which I really hope doesn’t happen.

Also, is the mother of Pete’s patient being played by Idina Menzel?

Aghh- Don’t even get me started on why Fox bumped Bones tonight. I’m still really mad about that. And the excuse they gave as to why they did couldn’t be stupider

This tv season has felt so disjointed – ever since the strike really. I mean, season premieres in March? FNL for half the year? Bones going AWOL all the time? Supernatural took essentially two months off halfway through…

However, I’m not complaining too loudly about FNL – I’ll take what I can get where that show is concerned. But the rest…do networks even care about viewers anymore? (Am I being naive in assuming that they ever did?)
