Tonight’s TV Spotlight…Tuesday, April 28, 2009

April 28, 2009 by

Whew…last night wiped me out.  Every feel just a little bit too connected?  Last night was a busy night in the GMMR household what with the CHUCK finale taking over my life for a little bit.  But it’s all good. I’ll take a little time today to regroup and my brain should be back to normal (insert ‘normal’ joke here).

Tonight’s another big night for TV. My TV fried brain forgot IDOL was on and I made plans to see a movie
(gasp). Well at least it’s only an hour long performance show…I can easily catch up when I get home.  Despite a great lineup of TV, there’s not a ton I watch on Tuesday, so I can spare a few hours in a movie theater (as long as they have AC – it’s going to be 90 degrees again today).

Check out a few highlights from tonight’s TV schedule. What will YOU be watching tonight? Spill it.

American Idol | 8pm on Fox
It’s down to the Top 5. Tonight the remaining contestants perform standards made famous by members of the Rat Pack. [GMMR: I’m already excited to see what Adam Lambert and Kris Allen are going to do.  We know Matt will whip out the fedora. Allison will go for the retro S1 Kelly Clarkson look (I just know it). Tonight could be rough for The Gokey – I can see him really cheesing it up.  But don’t worry, the judges wouldn’t dare say anything negative against their golden boy.]

Reaper | 8pm on The CW
“No Reaper Left Behind
The Devil wants Sam to start learning how to bring about the end of days; Nina seeks revenge on Sock and Ben.

The Biggest Loser | 8pm on NBC
The remaining contestants race up and down hills carrying bags representing their weight loss so far; after one contestant is eliminated, the final four head home for 30 days before returning to the ranch.

Fringe | 9pm on Fox
“Midnight”

The Fringe Division investigates when several mutilated bodies drained of spinal fluid are discovered; the team discovers a scientist with possible connections to the Z.F.T. bioterrorist cell. [GMMR:I’m still playing catch up with FRINGE. Almost there, just a few behind.  And you have no idea how tough it’s been.  The show is great.  Fantastic. But I’m SO not the type of person that deals well with scary/freaky/gross stuff. I watch half the show with my hands over my face. Well, not the parts with Joshua Jackson, but still…what I will do for Pacey. Geesh.]

The Mentalist | 9pm on CBS
Red Sauce
Patrick and the team investigate when a mobster in witness protection is murdered. [GMMR:This is the first episode of THE MENTALIST since I got to meet the sexy cast at Paley. One look into Simon Baker’s eyes and I could tell that he knew I wasn’t a regular watcher.  Maybe I should change that.  Tell me…can I jump into the show starting tonight or is there a big back story I need to get caught up on first?]

Cupid | 10pm on ABC
“The Tommy Brown Affair”
Trevor discovers that an ex-jewel thief is in love with his parole officer; after her apartment is robbed, Claire finds herself depending more on Trevor. [GMMR:This show is still on?]

Law & Order: Special Victims Unit | 10pm on NBC
“Selfish”
When a 2-year-old girl goes missing, her young, irresponsible mother (Hilary Duff) becomes the prime suspect. [GMMR: I’ve been thinking about the L&O franchise a lot in light of Leno taking up the 10pm time slot next season. SVU doesn’t feel like a 9pm show. Does it?]

My Boys | 10:30pm on TBS
“Carpe Burritoem”
After getting into an accident on his new scooter, Brendan lets P.J. make all of his decisions for a week; Kenny’s band needs a new bass player. [GMMR: Seems like I have to watch this one again. I don’t remember too much about Brendan’s night club in this episode. But I do know I love a good stake out!]

A sneak peek at tonight’s MY BOYS

Also playing…

  • NCIS | 8pm on CBS: The murder of a Marine brings McGee and Gibbs to Los Angeles for a joint investigation with the NCIS office of special projects; Tony looks into Ziva’s personal life.
  • Dancing with the Stars | 9pm on ABC: Results show. Another celebrity and dance partner are voted off.
  • 90210 | 9pm on The CW: Naomi’s sister, Jen (Sara Foster), visits; Adrianna and Navid tell his parents about their decision; Dixon and Silver acclimate to her new school; Naomi convinces Annie to go on a double date.
  • Without a Trace | 10pm on CBS: The team looks for a journalist who went missing after writing an exposé about a corrupt politician.
  • The Real Housewives on New York City | 10pm on CBS: Alex and Simon plan a party to show off their newly renovated home; Bethenny is set up on a blind date; LuAnn and her husband get the opportunity to ring the NASDAQ bell.

What will YOU be watching tonight?!

As far as jumping right in with The Mentalist- I think you’d be ok. There is some back story concerning Patrick Jane’s character- what happened to his wife and child, why he works with the CBI- that sort of thing. I don’t think you’d be confused though. I have to say- when I first watched the pilot in September I had no idea that the show would become one of my favorites. IMO, it’s definately worthy of the huge audience it gets week after week.

everything that I ddn’t watch last night: Big Bang, HIMYM, was House on? maybe Tabble for 12, I have several eps of Castle to catch up on. It depends – whatever I have to try hardest to avoid spoilers on. Also I have Moonlighting and Season 2 of the Gilmore Girls due at the library.

Please tell me you also met Owain Yeoman…be still my beating heart. Between him and Simon Baker, it’s no wonder the show is a ratings darling. Oh, and let’s not forget, it’s actually an amazing show.

I personally think you would be fine jumping into The Mentalist mid-season. Yes, there is some background info regarding Patrick Jane’s family and why he is working with the California Bureau of Investigation. And we can’t forget the love story between two of the CBI agents working with Jane. Honestly, I’m just as excited for Rigsby and Van Pelt to finally get together as I was for Sydney and Vaughn to get together on Alias…and that’s saying something.

Trust me, you are missing out.
