Tonight’s TV Spotlight…Wednesday, September 30, 2009

September 30, 2009 by

As the song goes, ‘See you, in September’…well at least until tomorrow when it’s officially October. What? How crazy fast did this month fly by? At least we will usher September out the door with a night of great TV.

I’m counting down the minutes until GLEE. Emmy award winner Kristin Chenoweth is the special guest star tonight and I can only imagine the greatness she will bring.  I’m so excited.

I’m also really looking forward to the second episodes of MODERN FAMILY (my other favorite new show of the Fall), COUGAR TOWN and EASTWICK – I’m interested to see how the show holds up post-pilot.

Tonight’s ABC premieres HANK and THE MIDDLE.  I can’t say that I was particularly excited about either of these shows.  THE MIDDLE is the better of the two, but I don’t think that’s saying much.  HANK was one of the worst pilots I’ve seen in a long time. Not even Kelsey Grammar can save this show.

There’s so much TV to choose from. Which shows will YOU be watching?  Which shows do you want to be talking about on GMMR tomorrow?

After all this, the least you could do is tell me what shows YOU will be watching tonight!

Hank | 8pm on ABC | Series Premiere
“Pilot”
Kelsey Grammer plays Hank Pryor, a business giant in the sports-retail arena who gets benched in a force-out, and, in the opener, takes his family back home to Virginia to try to rebuild his career and adjust to simply being a father and husband.

So You Think You Can Dance | 8pm on Fox
“Auditions”
The SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE auditions continue as the team looks for dancers to join the Top 20.

Mercy | 8pm on NBC
“I Believe You Conrad”
Veronica and Mike move back in together but realize the house is as much of a mess as their marriage; Sonia gets a hunky cop to help her find the identity of a patient; Chloe helps a patient everyone else had written off.

The New Adventures of Old Christine | 8pm on CBS
“Burning Love”
Christine and Richard encounter some old college friends and are shocked to see how old they look.

Gary Unmarried | 8:30pm on CBS
“Gary Promises Too Much”
When Allison’s new boyfriend offers to take Louis on a birthday trip to New York, Gary shouts out an unrealistic gift of his own.

(More of tonight’s lineup after the jump)

The Middle | 8:30pm on ABC | Series Premiere
“Pilot”
In the premiere of this slapstick sitcom about a working-class family in the U.S. heartland, frazzled mom Frankie (Patricia Heaton) tries to improve her sales—from zero—at the car dealership while making repeated trips to school for her youngest son, Brick, whose unusual behavior makes him an outcast among his peers.

Modern Family | 9pm on ABC
“The Bicycle Thief”
Phil is determined to help Luke prove he is responsible enough to have a new bike; Jay and Manny have some father and son time.

Law & Order: Special Victims Unit | 9pm on NBC
“Sugar”
Benson and Stabler question the CEO of an online-dating service (Eric McCormack) after discovering a member’s body stuffed inside a suitcase.

Glee | 9pm on Fox
“The Rhodes Not Taken”
Will enlists a former classmate (Kristin Chenoweth) to spice up the glee club and her efforts appear to be going well. But a key member thinks otherwise.. [GMMR: Check out a sneak peek of Kristin Chenoweth on GLEE.]

Criminal Minds | 9pm on CBS
“Haunted”
When a man goes on a killing spree at a pharmacy, the team tries to find out what set him off so they can find him before more people are hurt. Darrin Hall: Sean Patrick Flanery.

Cougar Town | 9:30pm on ABC
“Into the Great Wide Open”
Jules makes a fool of herself when she ignores the advice of her best friend and tries to keep up with the hard-partying twentysomethings.

“Blacklist (Featuring Hangman)”
The team searches for a cyberkiller who seems to be targeting health-care workers; the case turns personal when a suspect mentions Mac’s father.

Eastwick | 10pm on ABC

Roxie tries to protect Mia from her ex-boyfriend, Gus; Kat gathers the courage to end her marriage to Raymond; Joanna and Penny try to uncover Darryl Van Horne’s true identity.

Also playing…

  • America’s Next Top Model | 8pm on The CW: The contestants try to stand out when Tyra wraps them in vibrant fabrics and photographs them; China Chow serves as a guest judge.

After not being overly impressed with Eastwick last week, I don’t know that I’ll give it a second go. Could have just been a boring premiere, I don’t know, but I’ve got a season of Dexter to watch, and House from Monday, so I could be doing other things. Will definitely be checking out SYTYCD, GLEE! (so pumped for the Cheno!), and the results of SYTYCD Canada. I’ll be taping Criminal Minds, to watch at a later date.

I’ll be watching SYTYCD, Glee, Modern Family, Cougartown, and Eastwick. I might catch Hank, the Middle, and Mercy online but I haven’t decided yet haha.

SYTYCD, Glee and Criminal Minds on DVR. Modern Family and Cougar Town online.

I liked Cougar Town a lot more than I thought I would. After the first 1/3 of the show I felt it was like Scrubs (didn’t realize it was a Bill Lawrence show at first. Seeing “Jordan” should have tipped me off since she’s his wife.). Courteney Cox did a good job. She did get a little crazy and over-the-top sometimes, but that’s OK.
