Tonight’s TV Spotlight…Thursday, September 9, 2010

September 9, 2010 by

Talk about a big night for The CW. They’ve got big money riding on the one-two punch of  THE VAMPIRE DIARIES and the all new NIKITA (sniff…already missing SUPERNATURAL in this time slot, but NIKITA is worth watching). Over the next two weeks, the other Thursday night shows will return and The CW won’t have the luxury of a relatively quiet evening with little competition, so be sure to check out the C Dub fare tonight as you may decide you want to stick with what they’re offering.

Here are a few highlights of this evening’s TV schedule. If I didn’t include the show you’ll be watching, drop a line in the comments and let us know.

The Vampire Diaries| 8pm on The CW | Season Premiere
“The Return”
The second season begins with Elena discovering her uncle John’s bloody body and learning Jeremy’s fate, and Damon realizing that Katherine has returned. Meanwhile, Caroline is taken to the hospital following a car accident, and Tyler’s mysterious uncle Mason arrives in town. [GMMR: This is one hell of a season premiere. The Dobrev is cramazing as Katherine/Elena! I watched it last night and loved every single second of it. I can’t wait to break it down with you after tonight’s episode.]

Big Brother | 8pm on CBS
“HOH Competition”
Tonight the final Head of Household competition of BIG BROTHER Season 12 takes place. The winner of part I of the HOH competition goes up against the winner of part II. Whomever prevails in tonight’s final HOH will secure a spot in the finale and choose who he will be going up against for the jury’s vote. [GMMR: All my fingers are crossed for a Lane & Hayden finale. I like Enzo, but those guys deserve to be there. Thoughts?]

Rookie Blue | 9pm on ABC | First Season Finale
“In Blue; Take Down”
In a 2-hour episode, Andy questions her future with the force; the rookies find out if they have passed their evaluations; an untimely arrest compromises a major drug bust; Andy goes under cover with Swarek.

Nikita | 9pm on The CW | Series Premiere
“Pilot”
A spy returns to exact revenge on the clandestine agency that betrayed her after training her to be an assassin. In the pilot episode, Nikita (Maggie Q) emerges from three years of hiding to send a message to her former handlers at Division. Meanwhile, new recruit Alex begins her training at Division and discovers what the agency has planned for her future. [GMMR:  If you like ladies who kick a little ass, definitely make a date with Nikita tonight. Great pilot with a twist at the end that I didn’t see coming…at all.]

Also playing….

  • NFL Football (Vikings at the Saints) 8:30pm on NBC: Drew Brees and the defending Super Bowl champion Saints host the Vikings in a rematch of last season’s NFC Championship game. From the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans.
  • The Real Housewives of D.C. | 9pm on Bravo: Happiness is squashed at a vineyard grape stomp when Michaele and Tareq make disturbing accusations about Mary’s daughter. Meanwhile, Cat tries to pep up a political party.
  • Jersey Shore| 10pm on MTV: The roommates deal with the fall-out from the fight; Angelina starts dating; Jenni and Snooki clean up the smush room. [GMMR:  I don’t know what the “smush room” is and I don’t want to know.]

Now it’s your turn. What will YOU be watching tonight?

VAMPIRE DIARIESSSS!! I am SO excited to watch it tonight! I’ll also be watching Nikita because I’ve read a lot of good reviews for it, so I’m excited. I’ve been liking Rookie Blue this summer, so I can’t wait for the finale.
