About Last Night…AMERICAN IDOL, MODERN FAMILY, LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT and More!

Wednesday night TV is madness!

Surely I can’t be the only one who gets to the middle of the week, looks at how much television is on and starts trying to graph how the heck it’s going to be possible to watch it all. (Or maybe I am…)

So let’s talk about what was on last night!

Yes, SUBURGATORY was funny, but what I’m most curious about right now is how George is going to handle finding a “love box” in Tessa’s room. After all, merely finding condoms in his daughter’s room was what led to him originally uprooting her from New York in the pilot. Obviously he’s not going to move them again, but it’s a delicate situation to find these characters in again.

I know there was controversy over Lily cursing on MODERN FAMILY, but I thought it was one of their best episodes in a bit. Every time she cursed, I laughed. And Gloria and Jay jumping into the pool for the dog? Amazing.

Is it weird this HAPPY ENDINGS scene was my highlight for the night? Though Penny successfully changing her deadbeat possible boyfriend — only to have him immediately get engaged to his ex-girlfriend — was tragically hysterical.

AMERICAN IDOL was just so underwhelming. I’ve heard so many people speculate that too many singing reality shows might equal an overload for viewers, but this is the first time I’ve personally felt fatigued. I personally enjoyed THE VOICE and THE X FACTOR more than I enjoyed AI last year, and when it came time for AMERICAN IDOL’s premiere, I went in with no enthusiasm. There were a few good contestants, but I’m still waiting to care.

LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT suffered from GLEE-itis this week when it came to their big personal storyline. I loved the scenes with Nick Amaro and his family (and that made perfect sense in the context of the case), but the stuff with Olivia and the new DA felt like it was three episodes worth of storyline shoved into one hour. I think most viewers (myself included) want Olivia to be happy, but I’d also like for it to be at a believable pace. (Um, and what happened to her budding relationship with Ellis?)

HARRY’S LAW and ROYAL PAINS unfortunately are still on my DVR. Must catch up ASAP!

Suburgatory is the only one I watched, and it made me laugh. I’ve seen some criticism (elsewhere) that Cheryl Hines isn’t quite right for Dallas’ role, but I think she’s great. I love Lisa the neighbor. Her “He’s an older guy with older guy needs” cracked me up, because it was very high school. Actually, this show is the only ‘high school’ show that I can stand.
