What Are the Oldest Programs on Your DVR?

June 15, 2012 by

I have a slight DVR problem.

See, my TiVo is a little bit older and over the years I’ve built up a collection of some old episodes I just can’t bear to part with. Given that on any given day my DVR is 95-100% full, having episodes that are years old — and some that I own on DVD/blu-ray and/or on iTunes — is a pretty huge problem.

It’s not like this is going to change soon. (I tried rationalizing it away when my horrified best friend saw my TiVo lineup recently, but I don’t think she bought it.) As much of a headache as it causes me, there are some episodes I just refuse to part with because sometimes you just need to have a Very Good Episode of something on standby.

While this won’t shame me into deleting things off my TiVo, I figured it wouldn’t be fair to ask you to reveal what you have saved without sharing the five oldest scripted shows on my DVR…

  • PSYCH: “Murder? …Anyone? …Anyone? …Bueller?” (7/25/08)
  • PUSHING DAISIES: “Kerplunk” (6/13/09)
  • BONES: “The Proof in the Pudding” (1/21/10)
  • LOST: “The End” (5/23/10)
  • THE GOOD GUYS: “Hunches and Heists” (7/19/10) (Okay, to be fair, I was on set for this episode — and a blue blur in the background — so this was for sentimental reasons. And it’s sort of embarrassing to admit it, but I said I’d be honest…)

Okay, so don’t leave me hanging here. What do you have saved on your DVR?

SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE – the best performances from the first five seasons. Originally aired on 9/2/09. It’s the oldest show saved on my overworked DVR. I’m moving before the end of the month and sadly I will have to say goodbye.

@Kath: Man, I wish I still had that. A brilliant choice to keep it all these years. I hope somehow it survives the move!

@marie: Do you have original broadcast recordings from Buffy and Angel? That’s awesome if you do!

    @Susan – I want YOUR DVR!

@Susan: I echo Kath. That is IMPRESSIVE. Whoa. The thought of having something like ALIAS on my TiVo is droolworthy. (Yeah, yeah, I have neglected ALIAS DVDs. But it’s not the same.)

    I still have:

NCIS: “Call of Silence” – One of the finest TV episodes EVER for ANY series. I have the DVD too, but won’t part with the DVR episode. It’s “handier” for when I want to watch again (and again, and again). (Nov 23 ’04)
JAG: The two NCIS “pilot” episodes, ‘Ice Queen,” and “Meltdown.” (Reruns from ’08)

    Stargate SG-1: “Solitude” (’03)
    Stargate Atlantis: “The Shrine” (’08)
    Stargate Universe: “Time” (’09)

Movies: “The Big Sky” (Kirk Douglas, Dewey Martin) (’08), “Bite The Bullet” (Gene Hackman) (’07), “The 13th Warrior” (Antonio Banderas) (’08) [recorded from movie channels – no commercials)

The oldest show on my main DVR, which is part of my cable box, is the last few episodes of this past season of House. But, on my secondary DVR, which is my TV tuner enabled computer, the oldest show is Gilmore Girls S.7, which means the oldest episode is from Sept. 26th, 2006. I keep saying I’ll get around to watching it, but it just sits there taking up hard disk space.

So one of my TiVos just died and I lost everything–I know I had the entire seasons of Love Monkey and First Monday on there. On my other TiVo (which had the external drive die a year ago), the oldest stuff is 4 episodes of Out of Practice. However, my computer still has a bunch of stuff that I had pulled off my TiVos and ReplayTVs before they died or were retired–which includes things like an episode of The Ex-List from ’08, some JK Rowling Dateline special from ’07.
Plus, like Jason, I also have a TV Tuner card–from that still have the entire series of Married To The Kellys (’04) and The Loop (’06) and some eps of Oliver Beene (’03) & Less Than Perfect (”02), all in HD!

The ultimate aim would be to carry out a series of little movements,
each 1 leading to the next without having unnecessary muscular tension.
Many beginner guitar players tend to get stressed out and frustrated when they’re first starting out, and honestly,
how can you blame them. Users also have the ability to isolate
certain parts of the video that they have slowed down
    and save them into projects.
