RECKLESS: Cam Gigandet Teases His New CBS Series

June 28, 2014 by

Cam Gigandet — whom television viewers may remember from his memorable stint as Volchok on THE OC — is starring in the new CBS summer drama, RECKLESS, which follows City Attorney Roy Rayder (Gigandet) and Jamie Sawyer (Anna Wood) as they face off on various cases, including the season-long arc of a former Charleston police officer suing the department/city.

I sat down with Gigandet to see what he could share about his new series…

What drew you to Roy?
Cam Gigandet: What drew me to Roy was…there’s simplicity in who he is, and what his wants are, and the reasons that he does the things that he does, and his purpose. But it’s not simplistic. It’s not a simple thing to even achieve, so there’s depth and complexity within the simpleness that who Roy is. Just who he is is who he is, and he doesn’t shy away from it. It’s focused. Everyone else has their secrets, but he doesn’t.

Roy also is a father. What can you say about his relationship with his children?
CG: Obviously he loves his kids very much. Personally and emotionally, he’s going through a divorce so he’s dealing with not seeing his kids as much, and trying to figure out how to make it OK and do the right thing. But his ex-wife doesn’t always make it easy on him. But she’s still the mother of his children, so he’s still going to be respectful, try to find the most respectful way to get what he wants without hurting or using or manipulating his ex-wife.

Are his kids ever going to get dragged into the middle of a case?
CG: There is a case – or not even a case, but a circumstance — that happens because of his ex-wife, and anything that she does is going to effect his relationship and the time he spends with his kids. And he kind of draws the line there, and he will do whatever he has to do to be able to see his kids.

What can you tease about his relationship with Jamie?
CG: It’s a push-pull relationship. The attraction, whenever it pulls them, if they’re not very clear and very aware, it will just pull them closer and they’ll start to live out what they want, when they both know it’s not the right thing to do morally, legally. And they’re both aware that every time they get too close, they have to separate. And that’s hard for anyone to do.

And that brings up – their foreplay ends up being in the courthouse, and it makes it even steamier that they’re having this back-and-forth in front of everyone, even if it’s just said with a look or eyes. That foreplay makes you want it and crave it even more.

Will there be other women he’s interested in season 1?
CG: It’s really just Jamie. He doesn’t shy away from it. He’s true to himself, and he knows that that’s what he wants. And as respectful as he’s going to be, and is, he still knows that he wants her. So he’ll try to date a reporter. And there’s all these things along the roller coaster of a relationship, but there’s one constant thing, and that’s her.

RECKLESS premieres Sunday, June 29th at 9 PM on CBS.
