Nothing went according to plan on the Thursday, February 27 episode of A MILLION LITTLE THINGS, “the lunch.”

As Rome (Romany Malco) and Regina (Christina Moses) attempted to shelter Eve (Ebboney Wilson), their potential birth mother, from her abusive ex, the trio was blindsided when he showed up at Regina’s restaurant—and Eve agreed to go have a conversation with him.

“I think they’re torn between wanting to have a baby and wanting to protect this woman,” A MILLION LITTLE THINGS creator DJ Nash shared in the video below. “What they ought to be doing as birth parents is very different than what their heart is telling them to do as humans who are looking out for someone who is hurting and in danger…we will see these relationships forever changed because of the predicament they are in.”

Complicated in a different way is the lingering Eddie (David Giuntoli)—Delilah (Stephanie Szostak)-Katherine (Grace Park) triangle. Though everyone now knows about Eddie and Delilah’s affair—and Katherine and Eddie reunited—the drama has mostly explored the fallout in terms of their respective families and the daughter, Charlie, that was produced from the relationship.

But in “the lunch,” Delilah acknowledged to Sophie (Lizzy Greene) what the audience already knew: yes, she did love Eddie.

The moment was an important instance of healing for the mother-daughter duo. “I think it’s our longest scene of the series so far,” Nash said. “The two of them, I was all prepared to have to take trims and cut that scene way down, but I put every second in because they’re wonderful in it.”

Still up in the air is Eddie’s reunion with his former student/quasi-niece Sophie. “He has reconciled with everyone but Sophie,” Nash acknowledged. “We’ll see how—or if—that can happen.”

For more on “the lunch,” including Maggie’s (Allison Miller) confession about Gary (James Roday), here’s what Nash, Giuntoli, and Miller had to say about the hour…
