With just over two weeks until Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni) returns to LAW & ORDER: SVU—before spinning off into the new series LAW & ORDER: ORGANIZED CRIME—NBC is, officially, teasing what will lead to the April 1 two-hour crossover event.

The official episode summaries:

LAW & ORDER: SVU

“Return of the Prodigal Son”

The squad rallies around Detective Stabler to find the suspect behind a threat to his family. Christopher Meloni, Isabel Gillies, Allison Siko and Jeffrey Scaperrotta guest star.

LAW & ORDER: ORGANIZED CRIME

“What Happens in Puglia”

SERIES PREMIERE — Christopher Meloni stars as Elliot Stabler, who returns to the NYPD to take on the city’s most powerful organized crime syndicates and rebuild his life in the wake of a devastating personal loss. Dylan McDermott, Danielle Moné Truitt, Tamara Taylor and Ainsley Seiger also star. Mariska Hargitay guest stars.”

When the series was officially ordered in Junemonths after news leaked it was happening—details were similarly vague, but this did offer something new: Stabler is still officially is a detective (the rank he was at when he turned in his papers, off-screen, at the start of season 13)…at least to start things off.

Meloni has said that Elliot worked overseas (a possible tie to the OC pilot title?), which would also indicate whatever he’s been doing was likely with another unit of law enforcement.

And while it makes sense the SVU squad would jump in to protect the Stabler family, how deeply tied to his past is this threat? Is it from his time overseas or while working at One-Six? And is it just a coincidence a whole lot of clips from that first official crossover promo came from an episode where the perp got away by using a bomb as a distraction?
