GHOSTS’ Alberta (Danielle Pinnock) revealed a big secret on the Thursday, October 6 episode of the CBS comedy—but in turn, she got some very important information.

When Sam (Rose McIver) pitched a podcast to dive into Alberta’s life and death, an artifact from the singer’s past revealed a secret diary…and the information that Alberta had snitched out her competition, Clara (Mercedes Morris), to get her big break.

“It just was an honor for me, because as an actor, I was able to spread my wings,” Pinnock tells Give Me My Remote of getting to play the reveal. “GHOSTS is really the first TV show that I’ve had where I can really play with so many different emotions, the stakes, risks, and all of that.”

“A lot of times in my career, I have the co-star roles, which are very occupationally driven, whether it’s like the sassy truck driver or the disgruntled receptionist, that had a couple of lines,” she continues. “But here I’m able to really use my graduate school and comedy skills from the Second City to use. So it’s just been fantastic—I’m really excited for audiences to see my range as an actor.”

Pinnock is also quick to praise director Trent O’Donnell for his partnership in the episode. “It was such a joy to be able to work with him again, because he worked on the pilot and several other episodes in season 1,” she enthuses. “What we collaborated on and were able to create for Alberta will have fans loving her even more, which is exciting.”

The reveal will bring Alberta a bit closer to her roommates in upcoming episodes. “I think the thing with the other ghosts, it’s like, ‘Wait a minute, sis, we didn’t know this about you?!'” Pinnock says with a laugh. “They’ve been living with her for over 100 years; I think it surprises them. And some of them like that. Devan [Chandler Long], who plays Thorfinn, pokes fun at her. And it really just ruffles her feathers, which I love. Being able to play that as an actor is just so much fun.”

Elsewhere, with Sam, “she feels bad for Alberta because she’s like, ‘Girl, it’s okay. Sometimes you have to snitch and it’s fine,'” she continues. “I do feel like it does bring Sam and Alberta closer together. I know in season 1, Alberta claims that Sam was her bestie and I really do feel like by the end of the episode, it’s definitely solidified at the length that Sam even goes to to find out if she was murdered or not. She starts a whole podcast with this creepy guy? That’s her bestie.”

And whatever embarrassment Alberta felt over her secret being revealed was worth it: The ghosts shared they had seen Clara at the house the night of Alberta’s murder.

“Now that she has a suspect…I think she’s going to follow the tracks, for sure, to figure out was Clara the one that murdered her or was there somebody else?” Pinnock previews. “And as we go through the season, we’ll get to delve in more into Alberta’s murder and the podcast and we’ll really get to see what happened. But this is a nice first slice of the whodunnit.”

Fans won’t have to wait too long for the next clue. Teases Pinnock, “It is happening in the first half of this season…but there’ll be a couple big clues throughout the season.”

GHOSTS, Thursdays, 8:30/7:30c, CBS
