MASTERCHEF, BIG BROTHER, and GORDON RAMSAY'S FOOD STARS

MASTERCHEF: L-R: Dodger player Freddie Freeman, host/judge Gordon Ramsay, and judges Aarón Sánchez and Joe Bastianich in the “Dodger Stadium” episode of MASTERCHEF airing Wednesday, Aug 16 (8:00-9:02 PM ET/PT) on FOX. © 2023 FOXMEDIA LLC. Cr: FOX.

Let’s talk about Wednesday night’s TV!

MASTERCHEF: Not to be dramatic, but best episode of the show ever? (Why, yes, I’m biased as a Dodgers fan, thanks for asking. Love they got Freddie and Tony to be a part of the episode.)

In all seriousness, Red Team got so, so lucky that kids like burgers better, because their production of the baskets was absolutely a mess. I don’t know if Kendal deserved to go home, but it happens.

(Okay, but also it’s a tragedy the Blue Team didn’t win on a Dodgers challenge.)

BIG BROTHER: Again, Hisam is playing too hard, and I’d be shocked if he’s not out within the month. (Barring his team absolutely winning every challenge going forward/him not alienating them.) He’s “finally” getting out Reilly? Dude, it’s been a week. No one knew each other in week 1, she was HoH—unless we missed a lot in the edit, she wasn’t abnormal about anything? (Of course, she got all bonkers-focused on Hisam in the confessionals, but he doesn’t know that.)

Again, we’ve barely started this game and everyone is acting like there’s a decades-long family feud going on.

GORDON RAMSAY’S FOOD STARS: When you tell Gordon Ramsay your product could win him a Nobel Prize…yeah, you’re going to win. (Especially because it’s potentially true.)

The finale was interesting, because we spent all season seeing these people have to work with each other; now, it was all about being solo. I’m glad no one had a disaster, but it also meant it very much felt like it was about the product itself versus the contestant. Which, look, is absolutely fair given Ramsay’s investment and partnership. It wasn’t a bad final challenge—and it made me want to try two of the products (sorry to Lan, I just don’t drink coffee)—it was just not exactly what I was expecting.

[For more on the finale and the season as a whole, here’s what Chris Kanik shared.]
