[Warning: This post contains spoilers for the Wednesday, October 18 episode of QUANTUM LEAP.]

With Addison (Caitlin Bassett) and Ben (Raymond Lee) working their first full leap together since he discovered he had been presumed dead for three years, tension was high for the former couple on the Wednesday, October 18 episode of QUANTUM LEAP.

At first, Ben seemed to shoulder the blame for their estrangement, confiding in Sheriff Morgan (Louis Herthum)—who was part of the week’s mission—that he may have been to blame for his relationship ending.

But when Ben wanted to go against Addison’s—and HQ’s—wishes in an attempt to figure out if the government had a secret testing facility, Addison begged Ben to not make her bury him again…and Ben snapped.

“No one made you do that!” he told her. “No one made you bury me after two years, but you did. And now I have to live with whatever that means for the rest of my life, whatever kind of life this is.”

“The trajectory of Ben and Addison’s relationship, because of the challenges that we put in between them, is one of the most exciting things for the writers’ room,” QUANTUM LEAP co-showrunner Dean Georgaris tells Give Me My Remote. “We didn’t want to drag it out because Addison and Ben, their personalities, aren’t [prone] to drag things out. They confront, they talk, they share at a reasonable pace.”

“What was so exciting was we also get to see these two terrific actors play very different emotions than they got to play in season 1,” he continues. “In the case of Ben, you have a man who’s processing the fact not just that he blinked and his life changed, but underneath it, whether he wants to acknowledge it or not, he’s ultimately still the reason that all of this happens. He leapt. The flip side, you have [Addison], who we saw spend a whole season doing her best to support him, still trying to support him—but what’s the line? How [is the] best [way] to support him? Do you just let him get angry? Do you tell him your side of the story? And she’s walking this fine line, because in every leap, she knows, if he fails, he’s stranded forever in time…Is it possible to move forward and how do we do it? And knowing that, frankly, all we have is one another [on these missions.]”

Ben did meet a new ally in the hour in the form of the mysterious Hannah (Eliza Taylor)…but what role she’ll play in the season is still very much a mystery.

“Obviously, they have the incredible spark there in episode 3,” co-showrunner Martin Gero says. “By casting Eliza, and everyone knowing Eliza, everyone knows that the character is going to come back and be a force this season.”

“All I can say is she’s not a time traveler,” he continues. “She’s not an antagonist. And you’ll see her—I don’t want to say frequently, but she’s a presence, certainly, just in a really, really fun and beautiful way. And keep an eye out. It’ll happen sooner than you think.”
