Let’s talk about Thursday night’s TV!

TRANSPLANT: This episode was so odd? Not bad, but it felt like everything was amped up to 100 and falling apart. Because, sure, why wouldn’t there be someone getting shot while their partner was giving birth?!?

I do feel bad for Bash, though, because it’s not like his treatment was going to change him overnight (nor should he have needed it to), but it feels like Mags had unrealistic expectations. I’m sad for them that they feel so out of sync.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: 60 YEARS OF STARS AND STORYTELLING: Look, I’m thrilled ABC honored the show with a primetime special, even if the scheduling—months after the actual 60th anniversary—is bizarre. And even if they had devoted the whole of primetime to the special, yeah, it wouldn’t have felt like enough…60 years is a lot to cover.

It’s easy to point to the couples/storylines they excluded, the actors left out—or even the actors who were minimized in the special; I assume it was Genie Francis’ choice to be saved for the end, but…—or the formatting that occasionally prioritized celebrity guest stars over the people who have been there for a long time.

But for all of the things that made me go “hmm…”—I am just glad they honored the show. That it’s still around. When ONE LIFE TO LIVE and ALL MY CHILDREN were canceled so many years ago*, it felt like it was very close to the end of soaps on ABC. I’m glad GH is still around all of these years later.

*Oh, you better believe I’m still mad about this.
