It’s no secret I watch a lot of TV. Heck, I watch more TV than I should probably ever admit. But there is a lot, lot, lot of good stuff on television — and now, increasingly, through other mediums like Netflix, Amazon, etc. It’s a good time to love quality programming.

As we approach the end of the year, I wanted to note a few of the shows that stood out to me over the past 12 months. First up, we have the top episodes. For me, they were the most enjoyable as a television fan. You may agree with some, all, or none. You may be like me and have your top episodes change 20 times. (Only a slight exaggeration, but I easily could have singled out 25 great episodes this season. Or 50.)

So, these are the 13 hours of television that stuck out to me the most this past year, in alphabetical order of series…

Top 13 Episodes of 2013

(And yes, I’ll have a top shows post coming up shortly.)

HOLLYWOOD GAME NIGHT’s second season won’t officially kick off until January 20, 2014, but if you’ve been missing the show (as you should have been), NBC has a treat for you: a special holiday installment this Monday (December 23rd) at 10 PM.

“Well, basically, we have a tree,” HOLLYWOOD GAME NIGHT host Jane Lynch told reporters on the set of the series last month. “We played our games with some holiday themes here and there. But basically it’s our ‘coming back on the air and feeling festive [episode]’ — we didn’t play any season-specific [games]. We have Rachel Bilson, Andy Roddick, Brooklyn Decker, Ray Romano, [Gavin DeGraw, and Cheryl Hines as the celebrities competing]. [Andy and Brooklyn] are the first couple. We have a lot of couples coming up. They’re on opposite teams.”

And it may be the holiday season, but the HGN contestants won’t be taking it easy — they’re in it to win.

Comments Off on THE VOICE: Noel Zancanella and OneRepublic’s Ryan Tedder on Writing the Winner’s Song

THE VOICE tapped OneRepublic front man/song writer Ryan Tedder, and his frequent collaborator Noel Zancanella, to write a song to become the show winner’s first single — but in order for the single to be ready in time for the finale, the songwriters wouldn’t actually know which contestant would be singing their song/who they should be writing it for.

After the results show — where Team Adam’s Tessanne Chin was named the champion — Tedder and Zancanella talked with reporters about the process, which singer they felt it was most important for the song to connect with, and more…

THE FOLLOWING’s Kevin Williamson: ‘The Entire Show is Different’ in Season 2

December 18, 2013 by
Filed under #1 featured, The Following

the-following-featured

THE FOLLOWING season 1 ended in an explosive manner — literally — and when the show returns for its sophomore season in January, things are drastically different: it’s a year later, Joe’s followers have kept a low-profile (for a bit), Ryan has once again moved away from working with the FBI, and a whole slew of new characters are added to the mix. (Which, given last year’s high fatality count, makes sense.)

For THE FOLLOWING creator Kevin Williamson, he acknowledged that even figuring out what the biggest change between season 1 and season 2 was difficult to nail down.
