Amy Poehler to Star in OFFICE Spinoff?

July 15, 2008 by

About 10 minutes ago I received a cryptic message from an inside source with ties to THE OFFICE saying that there was going to be some interesting news surfacing soon. Just as I wrote back asking for more info (it’s late and I’m too tired to decipher clues) I checked The Hollywood Reporter and sure enough there is a story about Amy Poehler joining the cast of THE OFFICE spinoff. Supposedly she is in negotiations so nothing is set in stone. Hot damn…please let this be one of those rumors that is actually true.

According to THR, Poehler’s name first surfaced as a possible lead back in April.  To date the only cast member officially cast is Aziz Ansari.  Rumors were floating around that former OFFICE star Rashida Jones might have a part in the new show, but there hasn’t been any more buzz on that as of late.  But maybe now that Rashida’s good friend Amy Poehler might be joining it might be a little added incentive for Ms. Jones.  Oh speculation is a fun game.

(By the way, my first choice for the lead of the new show has always been Will Arnett…but I’ll certainly take his wife too – that’s what she said!)

I for one am over the moon at the idea of seeing Amy on anything associated with THE OFFICE.  But the downside of course would be more Amy Poehler on SNL.  Wah Wah.

Again it’s all rumor, but why not have fun speculating with me.  Would you like to see Amy Poehler on THE OFFICE spinoff?

I’d heard that Rashida Jones (Karen) was going to star, which I’d actually prefer to Amy Poeler. Nothing against her, it’s just that I think Karen needs some more time to shine.

    We’ll see.

Wife of GOB? I *think* I’m excited about that, but I’m undecided. I find her realllly funny, but I’m not sure how she’ll bode with the sort of dry humor of the Office, assuming the spin-off is also documentary style. And assosciating her with it just seems kinda gimmicky…although I like her.

She was funny on “Arrested Development”, but awful on SNL. I don’t know what to think. But “The Office” has sort of run out of steam, anyway; maybe they need someone off-the-wall to give the spinoff a quick kick in the pants.

Those two together would be an amazing casting coupe. Then whomever they add will be perfect. Why do i say that. Ummm, every single episode so far and every single character cast! They DON’T miss. If i told you two years ago that Andy would be a huge part of this series you woulda said… yeah right. Amy is soooo funny and with the right cast and writers ( forget SNL it is not funny though she still is), she can be amazing. I love Amy Poehler and Rashida Jones and anything that has The Office attached to it.

Yay! I would much rather have Amy than Rashida. But then SNL would be even less great w/o Amy.

I’m excited about this. I think she is a very funny woman. I like her on the spinoff better than I would have liked Rashida on the spinoff…at least as a lead character.

Finally a rumor that makes me actually want to watch the spin-off! Lets hope they get Amy—she’d be a great female lead.

Actually, according to Michael Ausiello at Entertainment Weekly, The Office Spinoff idea has been scrapped altogether, and Amy will instead be staring in an entirely new series that Greg Daniels will create. Not sure if this is true or not, but just thought I’d share.

And if it is true…. Yay, no Office spinoff! Never was a fan of that idea.

Yes, I would LOVE to see Amy in the Office spinoff! I think she’d give the show more credibility. But I would miss her on SNL.
