Desperate Housewives Recap : Give Me My Remote

DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES: Connect! Connect!

January 12, 2009 by

Tonight’s Desperate Housewives was all new and full of ungrateful and disrespecting children. Or at least it seemed that way to me. We also saw the conclusion of the Porter storyline, some out of character moments, and Edie and Dave reconciling. All this is leading up to next week’s one-hundredth episode.

Carlos has gone back to work and the girls are out of control. When I said above that this episode was full of ungrateful children I was mostly referring to Juanita and Celia. In my opinion they’re two of the most badly behaved children on TV. It actually got to the point where it was annoying to even watch them on the TV. The entire storyline feels old as well. It seems like Tom and Lynette have had a similar storyline before. There’s really no need to recycle storylines when Gabby is such a dynamic character.

Another ungrateful child is Alex, Andrew’s fiancée. Even though Bree seemed to think he was right, I agree with Orson on the subject; he might be right about Bree being too controlling but it was inappropriate to be so rude to her about it. Is it really any of his business anyway? Orson and Bree’s relationship is, well, their relationship. Alex needs to mind his own business.

Lynette’s mother would say that Lynette is being ungrateful but I really have no stance on this storyline. This also feels recycled. We already had the entire half season where Lynette and her mother worked their issues out. We don’t need a repeat of that. It was tedious enough the first time. And how anticlimactic was the Porter storyline? Lynette finds Porter and the charges are dropped (off-screen!). After all this buildup, it was a little bit of a letdown.

Now that I’ve gone on a little rant about what I didn’t like about this episode let me tell you what I do like. I love that someone finally called Susan out on the fact that she’s so dependent on men. And I love that it was Edie. She’s really the only one who can tell Susan like it is and Susan got her point; she decided not to move in with Jackson. As a side note, is Gale Harold off the show now? It seems like they’ve written him off. I know he was in a car accident a while back but I thought he would return once he’d recovered.

I also liked that Mike and Katherine are taking the next step. I’m glad they’re finally giving Katherine something to do. And I hope they bring Dylan back soon. I liked the dynamic between her and Katherine and I’d like to see how she reacts to Mike.

So what did you guys think of tonight’s episode? And how excited are you guys for next week’s 100th episode?

Tricia is your Desperate Housewives girl this year. She’s from upstate New York and is currently a freshman in college. She’s also a hardcore TV fan; check out her homemade TV schedule: http://www.flickr.com/photos/27093551@N08/2782207387/

I loved the scene where Orson told Bree that even though it was his turn on top, she could go if she wanted to. It reinforced the point and made me laugh! I agree with you about how recycled some pieces of the episode seemed. Tom and Lynette seem to go through the same situations over and over.

Porter’s storyline just fell apart to nothing. The woman is paid off to leave and then the charges are dropped make it a storyline that had no point. The Scavos need some good news that isn’t so short lived and interspersed with a power struggle.

Susan seems less clumsy and adorable this season. The five year jump is just taking me some time to get used to.

I’m interested in hearing about some of those out of character moments you mentioned.

    (here via Google Alerts)

They are planning for Gale Harold to resume filming episodes this month, probably starting with 5.16. Sunday’s episode was filmed in November, so they were not sure of his prognosis at that time.

Gale will be back. Theyre buying him time to recover fully.
