UPDATE: Looking to find who went home on IDOL? Click here for tonight’s shocking results: Who Went Home on AMERICAN IDOL? (April 28, 2011)

PREVIOUS POST

And then there were 20. Tonight two guys and two girls will say goodbye to the IDOL stage forever as the first four causalities of the 9th season. Who will it be? If GMMR readers have anything to say about it, we’ll be waving bye to Haeley Vaughn, Tim Urban, Lacey Brown and (surprise) Jermaine Sellers. Do you think our readers got it right?

Join us back here at 8pm EST as we LIVE blog tonight’s results show. The comments will be open so you can join in on the conversation and share your thoughts throughout the entire hour. Not in front of a TV? On the West Coast? I’ll post the results the minute they are announced.

Special performances by last season’s winner, Kris Allen and rocker Allison Iraheta.

We’re ready to get started….are YOU?

  • 8:05pm: The Top 24 is singing their first group number to “American Boy” . I shouldn’t say singing as they are clearly lip syncing. For shame IDOLs, for shame. This is embarrassing. Sorry, but I’m so offended by this.  I want to turn off this show right now.  These are supposed to be the best of the best and they can’t sing live together?  If they can’t sing AND dance, then don’t have them dance.
  • 8:06pm: Casey James needs not to smile so much while he’s singing. It kind of freaks me out.
  • 8:11pm: Back after the first break and Ryan has dimmed the lights. At least one of the girls is going to find out if she’s in the bottom tonight.
  • Siobhan Magnus – SAFE
  • Haeley Vaughn – SAFE
  • Michelle Delamore – SAFE
  • Katelyn Epperly – SAFE
  • Katie Stevens – SAFE
  • Janell Wheeler  – ELIMINATED

WHAT?  Ok, first I’m not sure I was ready for someone to go home so early in the program. But Janell Wheeler?  The wrong choice America! I am shocked!! I thought Janell was one of the strongest coming out of Hollywood Week. Her Top 24 performance was flawed but she most definitely performed better than a lot of the other girls. I’m devastated. I didn’t see that coming at all!

8:21pm: While we recover from Janell’s auf’ing, it’s time for Allison Iraheta to take stage with her new song “Scars”. The Rocker looked beautiful tonight. This year has been good to her.  I can’t say that I loved the performance. I couldn’t understand half the words she was singing. Allison is such an explosive singer, yet she was so restrained tonight. Was she nervous? On the IDOL stage? Amazing how she came alive during her interview with Ryan. I wish more of that was in her performance.

8:26pm: It’s right back to the results.

  • Paige Miles – SAFE
  • Lacey Brown – SAFE (what the what?)
  • Lilly Scott – SAFE
  • Crystal Bowersox – SAFE
  • Ashley Rodriguez – ELIMINATED
  • Didi Benami – SAFE

Don’t do that to me. Don’t put my girl Didi in the bottom two during the first night. Sad to say goodbye to Ashley from Chelsea, MA, but I didn’t think she’d be getting far, so I can’t say I’m too bummed.  Let’s hear it for Ashley Rodriguez.

So far a rather surprising night, at least for me.  No idea what to expect when it comes to the guys eliminations.

8:35pm: Ryan shows us footage of yesterday’s dress rehearsal during which Tyler Grady opted to work it out in his bathrobe. Interesting.

8:37pm: Time to send a guy home.

  • Michael Lynche – SAFE
  • John Park – SAFE
  • Aaron Kelly – SAFE
  • Todrick Hall – SAFE
  • Tim Urban – SAFE
  • Joe Munoz – ELIMINATED

Oh man. Really?  That breaks my heart a bit. Based on his vocal performance, Joe didn’t deserve to go over Tim.  Guess Tim’s pretty smile got him the votes he needed. Poor Joe. Tim, you better have the performance of your life next week my friend.  This is the second free pass you’ve been given. Time to earn it.

Does anyone else feel this is bizarro IDOL night?  Sorry, but I’m still reeling from Janell’s elimination.

8:46pm: One more guy to send home, but first it’s time to talk ‘Idol Gives Back’. The charity show will be back on April 21st. Ryan’s asking for other corporate sponsors to reach out if they want to be involved.  This year’s ‘Idol Gives Back’ sponsored by GiveMeMyRemote.com. Love it!

8:47pm: Kris Allen (be still my heart) has just come home from witnessing the devastation in Haiti. His IDOL performance tonight will be available on iTunes for charity. Go to AmericanIdol.com for more information on how you can donate to Haiti. I know I’ll be buying it.  Footage of Kris working in Haiti is the backdrop for his beautiful performance of “Let it Be” by the Beatles. His voice was so tender and gorgeous throughout. Quite touching.

8:55pm: It’s time to end the dreams of one more singer tonight. Who will it be?

  • Casey James – SAFE
  • Jermaine Sellers – SAFE
  • Lee Dewyze – SAFE
  • Andrew Garcia – SAFE (whew! I was nervous given how things are going tonight)
  • Tyler Grady – ELIMINATED
  • Alex Lambert – SAFE

Gotta say, I have zero issues with saying goodbye to Tyler. So glad Alex is going to get a second chance to perform. I’m pulling for this kind.

So goodbye to Janell, Joe, Ashley and Tyler.

How do you feel about tonight’s eliminations?  Expected? Shocking? Makes no difference because they weren’t going to win anyway?

I’m so bummed that Joe got eliminated! He was one of the few guys I liked last night!

I didn’t think I could love Kris Allen anymore. I was wrong. Love. Him.

  3. Give Me My Remote on February 25th, 2010 9:08 pm

Yeah, I really liked his performance too. Seems to seasoned after listening to some of these yahoos sing over the past two days.

  4. Bobbi on February 25th, 2010 9:42 pm

Well that stinks! I liked Janell and Tyler-even if he needed to update his wardrobe and sing modern.

I’m sorry, but I have a strong disliking towards Haeley. I mean don’t get me wrong, great for the kid trying to live out her dream, but really? I mean are we watching the same show. She totally ruined and completely ruined the classic Beatles song. People will only vote for her because she is young and pretty, but seriously clean your ears out people, she can’t sing. I close my eyes and shriek at the noise coming out of her mouth.

    and I missed Kris!!! sigh…what a cutie!!!

I agree with Tyler & Ashley leaving; I would have sent home Tim Urban and Lacey Brown. I think Haeley is better than she sounded last night – she’s so young and unpolished, but she wasn’t as bad as Lacey, who was terrible. Honestly, everyone sucked both nights; I thought Didi and Bowersox rocked for the girls, and Casey and Andrew were the best out of the boys. I hope the performances improve dramatically, or I will be giving the Idol dvr space to something else…not sure what, but I can always find something. 🙂

I wish we could vote off judges – I’m soooo over Kara. She’s turned into the new Paula, and her creepy crush on Casey makes me uncomfortable. Ick.

  8. Aly on February 25th, 2010 10:32 pm

Hahahaha that’s exactly what I said. Kara is the new Paula. Paula & Corey. Kara & Casey. Gross.

  9. Katie on February 26th, 2010 12:08 am

I think this is one of the worst top 24’s ever!

  10. Sandy on February 26th, 2010 3:11 am

I’ve watched every season of Idol and I completely agree with Katie above. This has to be one of, if not the worst Top 24. I find most of the contestants to be uninspired. My hope is that the lackluster performances were the result of nerves and the remaining contestants will work it out and find their muse. I thought there were others that performed much worse that Joe and Janell but i didn’t think they would make it to the Top 12 anyway, so I am not too mad at it. I love the Bowersox chick and I like Alex but I was almost rooting for him to be eliminated just so I would no longer have to see the “Emo Mullet” currently on his head.

It’s such a shame that didn’t get behind Kris Allen like they did Adam lambert. Kris Allen can sing and he is great to look at. Personally I was not to impressed with Adam Lambert’s album. I also wished Janell would have stayed and Joe was a victim of people not knowing enough about him to get enough votes. They may the wrong decision with that Tim urban guy when Thaddeus kid did such a much better job in hollywood week.

Eh, I think it was to be expected. I think that Tyler could have got another chance but he’s def doesn’t deserve to win and Ashley isn’t so bad. But, they did pick off the weaker ones I think. I think America did good overall.
