About Last Night…CASTLE, GOSSIP GIRL, HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER and More

October 18, 2011 by

Is it me or is Monday night TV really fun? There are some great “guilty pleasure” shows, plus it feels like there’s just the perfect amount of shows on that I watch — enough to keep me occupied, but not so much that my TiVo blows up and vows revenge.

So let’s talk about our Monday night shows!

HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER is continuing their trend of making me uncomfortable with the addition of Kal Penn’s Kevin. He might be a fun love interest for Robin (especially shedding light on their group dynamic…it was fun when they did that on FRIENDS with one of Phoebe’s boyfriends), but given that he was her therapist, it feels so creepy. Not to mention, the entire thing is unethical. Oh, and Cobie Smulders (Robin) looks amazing, but did the show seriously try to make her pass as 14?! No. Not gonna happen. But on a much less negative note, Marshall and Lily are having a boy! I can’t wait to see how the group is impacted by the addition of their son.

I’m not entirely sure when it happened, but I think I’m enjoying GOSSIP GIRL more than anything else on Monday nights. I wish so much that Dan’s book was a tie-in we could buy (because I would so be in line for that), but it was interesting to see the fallout from what he wrote. Of course no one read poor Lonely Boy’s book until they were really prompted to. I felt bad for Nate that he was hurt to be marginalized and I felt terrible for Rufus whose rejection clearly impacted Dan the most, but the rest of the characters shouldn’t have been so shocked. Yes, Serena used to be wild and if you’re going to fictionalize her, that’s what you write about; those are the characteristics that would arguably provide the most storylines. And Blair can deny it as much as she wants, but there was something between her and Dan. It may not fit into the life she has now, but it was there. Also, maybe Blair should realize that Louis has had to be talked into staying with her by both Chuck and Dan. The men who love her are doing more to make sure she stays happy than her fiance…put the pieces together, sweetie!

The heat brought out the crazy (and led to significantly less clothing) for HART OF DIXIE‘s characters. (Well, for everyone except George.) It feels like Zoe and Wade are going to cross that line sooner versus later, but I’m still not totally sold on them as a couple I want to root for. Lavon and Lemon, however, are breaking my heart. I understand and respect her relationship with George, but I think I’m Team LaLemon. (Totally made up that couple name. Feel free to school me in the comments below on what I should actually be calling them.)

I’m a little baffled by how HOUSE has handled the whole Olivia Wilde (13) situation. I know she had a contract to finish up, which is why they brought her back after her extended movie-making hiatus last year, but I can’t understand the logic in how they brought her back this season. If they only had one episode to send her off, why not make it have more of an impact and have it been when Taub and Chase were back? She had no history with Park and Adams, who were caught up in their own games. Oh well.

So now that you’ve seen how the latest CASTLE “love interest” played out, can there be a collective pledge to not freak out if something like this is announced again until we see how it plays out onscreen? No? Well, it was worth a try. I actually didn’t mind the character after the first 10 or 15 minutes (when they were very obviously trying to get her to grate on Beckett’s nerves). She was feisty and really, is it that huge a shock that someone would be interested in Castle? I do love the device of Beckett’s therapist and enjoyed the very brief scene we got with him this week. I hope he’ll be back soon.

Decided against watching TERRA NOVA last night. Anyone watch it? Did I make the right call?

What did you guys end up watching Monday night?

    Re: Castle

If we don’t freak out, how will the writers know we love their show? 😉

Next week’s episode of Castle looks like great fun!

Last night’s Castle was not one of my favourites…and no, it had nothing to do with the “love interest”….I just think after last week’s epic episode this one couldn’t help but pale. I did have some highlights though including the (all-too-brief) appearance of Therapist Worf and Ryan’s disappointed head-shake at the news of Castle’s hallway kiss. And just as no one does “a look” quite like Nathan Fillion, no one does a one-liner quite like Stana Katic….”HEY!” indeed!

Need to catch up on HIMYM and Hart of Dixie so I’ll read your thoughts later!

Watched Castle & Hart of Dixie. Both I really enjoyed. And the eye candy in Hart of Dixie. Wow (fanning myself)! I’m enjoying it. I’m still having trouble feeling anything for Lemon, but I really feel bad for Lavon. I’m wondering if anyone knew they were dating. No one seems to act like it. George doesn’t seem to have any = you’re my fiance’s ex vibes with the mayor. Maybe it’s me.

    Enjoyed 2 Broke Girls too.

@Becky: Fairly certain no one knows they were together. So it’s secret pain, which = even more angst.

@canakatydid: Is it weird if I liked this week’s episode of CASTLE more than last week’s?

    @jendfaz: 😉

I guess after suffering through the whole Hannah storyline on Bones last season, I will admit that I was “freaking out” with the possibility of another SO plot line on Castle. Thankfully it was done well and there doesn’t seem to be any long lasting commitments. I especially loved the great scene with the therapist and Beckett. I was not left guessing what was going on in Beckett’s mind about her feelings on the possible love interest with Castle. She didn’t like it! Next week’s episode looks fun. I love holiday episodes!!!

@Marisa Not weird at all. Perhaps my love for Ryan and okness (if that’s a word) with them working around Michael Mosley’s absence made me think more or it than it warranted.

Gossip Girl is a return to form this season, I haven’t been so hooked since around season 2. Every plots are going at great pace, and finally every character is utilized. I’m also amazed that Liz Hurley managed to stop the clock, this woman hasn’t age a day since her last movie a decade ago!

@DB: You’re so right about Elizabeth Hurley…the woman looks INSANELY good.

I am loving Gossip Girl (and Chuck! 😉 ) more than ever. Louis needs to leave…seriously. I really don’t like this guy. Just…yeah. Bye bye Louis! *waves*

And Serena spent the episode getting on my nerves…again. What did she expect? Wild child makes for a way better story, deal with it blondie! 😛

    Oh…and did I mention I’m adoring Chuck? Because I am…adoring him I mean.

Castle…I really loved this weeks Castle, but some of the case stuff really annoyed me. Is it just me, or were the reasons for bringing Falco in for questioning incredibly…lame. Surely that could never happen in RL…surely?!! But I did love Beckett’s irrational jelousy, and that Castle spent so much of the episode trying to decipher her reaction to Serena being interested in him. Fun fun fun.

And Hart of Dixie….oh my. It was hot guy galore…Wade and Lavon? Win! Lavon broke my heart this episode, though I can’t find it in myself to give a damn about Lemon. She’s not a particularly nice person, which makes it very easy for me to NOT like her. Wade I am loving though…and Zoe (Rachel Bilson) was as adorable as ever.

Re Lavon and Lemon’s relationship…they stopped their relationship 6 months ago, right? Do we know how long George and Lemon have been together? Because, I was working on the assumption that Lemon cheated on him WITH Lavon, but I’ve realised we don’t actually know that. (Although the fact no one seems to know about them lends credence to that theory.)
