It’s a very GHOSTS holiday event—or a GHOSTmas, if you will—on Thursday, December 15, as the delightful CBS comedy celebrates Christmas (and Hanukkah) with “The Christmas Spirit.” (The episodes kick off at a special 8/7c time slot.)

“Sam and Jay are really excited to be having their first Christmas here at the mansion,” Román Zaragoza (who plays Sass) previews to Give Me My Remote. (The show didn’t do a holiday episode last year, and the cast shares they’ve speculated Rose McIver’s Sam and Utkarsh Ambudkar’s Jay left home for Christmas.)

“I think everyone’s excited to see how Sam celebrates Christmas,” Sheila Carrasco, who plays Flower, acknowledges. “I think this is the first time we’re going to get to see her really thriving…we’re really seeing Sam go full force. She is obsessed with Christmas, and is good at it. So, there’s a lot of fun supporting her and enjoying all the amazing Christmas decorations that she’s somehow able to get out overnight.”

“The Christmas Spirit: Part One” – In part one of a special one-hour #Ghostsmas episode, Jay’s sister, Bela (Punam Patel), visits Woodstone Mansion and brings along an adoring male friend, inspiring Sam to spark a romance between them in the spirit of the holiday rom coms she loves. Meanwhile, the ghosts have conjured up a very different holiday plan for Trevor and Bela. Also, Isaac has an awkward encounter with Nigel that forces him to look back on events in his life, on the CBS Original series GHOSTS, Thursday, Dec. 15 (8:00-8:30 PM, ET/PT) on CBS Television Network, and available to stream live and on demand on Paramount+. The mood is festive as Sam and Jay welcome back his sister, Bela (Punam Patel), who has come to the mansion to celebrate the holidays—and brought along a friend, Eric (Andrew Leeds).

“The best thing I would say about this episode is that I get to work with my best friend Punam Patel,” Danielle Pinnock, who plays Alberta, admits. “And working with her has been just such a dream…now she has a huge Christmas episode that focuses on her character and the relationship between her and Jay as siblings. I cannot wait for audiences to delve in. It is a beautiful, beautiful Christmas episode and it’s filled with tons of laughs.”

Sam gets inspired by the season to match-make Bela and Eric—much to the chagrin of Trevor (Asher Grodman), who still is intrigued by Jay’s sister, despite their non-compatible living situations—and sets out to create the perfect moment.

And while some of the ghosts can’t quite get into the Christmas spirit, “there’s something about Pete’s personality that fits perfectly in the Hallmark Christmas universe,” Richie Moriarty notes of his character. “And there’s so much great Hallmark-y stuff in it. A lot of it is lampooning the Hallmark world…the writers are like, oh, let’s put [McIver, who starred in Netflix’s A CHRISTMAS PRINCE franchise] in a sort of Hallmark kind of environment and see what plays out.”

Naturally, things go…very awry. “Listen, the shenanigans that we get involved in are unlike any Christmas episode that I’ve ever seen,” Pinnock teases with a laugh.

Devan Chandler Long, who plays Thor, also laughs while trying to describe what happens in the episode, allowing there’s a “miracle”—of sorts. “History will repeat itself on Christmas, but in a different way,” he teases. “People will get closer.”

Elsewhere, Hetty “becomes particularly obsessed with some online videos,” Rebecca Wisocky previews. “She is on her own little Christmas journey of sexual discovery in a brand new way.”

While many of the holiday-related plans go awry, the ghosts do manage to pull off one thing: singing!

“We worked with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra choir director for a couple of days to record some Christmas music as a cast, which was just so fun,” Moriarty shares. Adds Wisocky: “We have quite a few wonderful singers in the company. It’ll feel like the true spirit of Christmas.”

But with it being the last episode of 2022—the show is back with new episodes on Thursday, January 5—there’s something in store that will leave fans counting down the seconds until the comedy returns. “In true GHOSTS fashion, it will end with a rather shocking turn of events that I suspect no one will see coming,” Wisocky teases. “It will leave people talking and aghast.”
