CASTLE: Andrew Marlowe Previews ‘Reality Star Struck’

February 11, 2013 by

It’s Valentine’s Day on CASTLE, and the pressure is on for this holiday to go a little bit better than the last one Castle and Beckett spent together.

“There certainly are shenanigans, especially because the episode is told against the backdrop of reality TV this time…where we have a murder of one of the cast members of [fictional series] THE WIVES OF WALL STREET,” CASTLE creator Andrew Marlowe teased. “When their husbands flamed out on Wall Street, these women had to get busy taking over. And one of their members has been killed. And that larger than life investigation and the fun of that investigation serves a backdrop for Castle and Beckett as it closes in on Valentine’s Day, and each is trying to figure out what the other one got them. But of course, Castle’s Valentine’s Day plans for Beckett go awry, and he’s left scrambling, trying to salvage the situation…Certainly what’s fun about it is Beckett doesn’t have Castle’s kind of money. So what’s she going to get him?”

Another noteworthy aspect of the hour is that the ABC series is hosting another mini-FIREFLY reunion: Gina Torres (Zoe on the short-lived Fox series) is guest-starring in the episode as one of the reality stars. And while it could be easy to just bring in Nathan Fillion’s former costars as a wink to his past, Marlowe was delighted that Torres fit the role she played so well.

“Right person for the right spot,” Marlowe said. “We’ve been on for five years and there are only so many actors and we’ve been going through them! And you know, sometimes we absolutely try. Sometimes we look at a role and go, ‘Man, Adam Baldwin is right-on the right person for this role and how great would it be to have that reunion?’ Gina was right for this role, so it was really great to bring her in. And there have been other folks we’ve looked at off the show who I think are terrific actors because I’m a fan, but they haven’t been available to us because they’re on other things.”

As for what the other characters will be up to in “Reality Star Struck,” Marlowe teased “we will touch upon [expanding Ryan and Jenny’s family] in the Valentine’s Day episode” and that Gates “has a tremendous turn…it’s a lot of fun.”

CASTLE airs Mondays at 10 PM on ABC.

If he has to do a preview every week, and explain what a episode will bring, maybe he’s not that good of writer/storyteller.

Andrew is always very secretive and specultive, but I am really excited to see how the Caskett Valentines Day unfolds. I hope it has a lot of mushy, gushy stuff.

Tell that to the 13 million + viewers/DVRers out there who watch Castle every week. He’s an excellent writer/storyteller, one of the most loved in the business. If you don’t believe me, check this out from TheTVAddict:

“After an astounding 75,000 votes, what started with forty-eight very deserving showrunners in our second-annual TV Showrunner Madness Competition has been whittled down to one with CASTLE’s Andrew Marlowe coming out victorious in a truly epic battle against UK counterpart Steven Moffat.”

don’t have to try and prove anything to me, that’s my opinion, period. a lot of plot holes, a big errors in overall story, yes, I know its his story, but that doesn’t mean that I let pass this erros, with the only excuse that the show is 42 min. long, etc, 23/24 epi a season. please….

And about the millions of viewers, a lot of that people watch it for the actors, if the actors werent good as they are, and doesn’t show the chemestry they have with each other, this show has been canceled at least 2 season ago.
