BONES: Stephen Nathan Offers a Few Hopeful Season 10 Teases

September 26, 2014 by

BONES fans may have faced a painful loss in Thursday night’s season premiere, but there is a silver-lining to it: everyone else will be safe for the foreseeable future.

For other shows, that reassurance might not mean much. But with squintern Wendell battling cancer — and BONES boss Stephen Nathan teasing that “he’s going to be in pretty good shape initially” — after Sweets’ death, I asked for reassurance that the BONES family wouldn’t have to be bracing for another fatality.

“We have no further plans [for deaths],” Nathan said. “Other people will die, but they will either be victims or very, very, very bad people. We’re not going to be picking our regulars off.”

So, that’s one less trauma to worry about, yes?

And, on a lighter note, while Nathan wouldn’t elaborate much more about the upcoming 200th episode, he did tease to reporters that the hour would be “highly populated” with familiar faces.

“There are a lot of people we can’t get,” he acknowledged. “We’re really getting the people who we’ve known and have become family over the past few years. Ryan O’Neal (Max) will be there, we will have certain people showing up that will be a surprise. Obviously we can’t have everybody in it, otherwise we wouldn’t have any money to shoot any episodes past the 200th. I know, everybody says ‘Well why don’t you have this and why don’t you have this?’ It comes down to one word: money. There’s a limited amount of money that can be used and so we have to figure out what is the best way to spend that money, especially when it’s going to be a huge episode. It’s going to be a big one. And David [Boreanaz (Booth)] is directing, and I couldn’t be happier with that. It’s really big and he jumps into it headlong with absolutely not a shred of misgivings or negativity or anything. He’s game. He’s game for this one. He did a hell of a job with the last episode last year, and he’ll do a great job with this one too. We have a lot to live up to now.”

BONES airs Thursdays at 8 PM on Fox.
