FOREVER: Matt Miller Teases Henry Meeting ‘Adam’

The last episode of FOREVER left off on a sizable cliffhanger — Henry was kidnapped by the anonymous caller, “Adam” — and in this week’s midseason finale, the action picks up right where the show left viewers.

“This is a very big midseason finale episode for us,” FOREVER creator Matt Miller teased. “It’s our biggest mythology episode so far, in that Henry will in this episode meet the anonymous caller — the man that has been stalking him since the pilot, the person that claims to share his immortal affliction. At the end of [the last episode], he is kidnapped in a taxi…and this episode picks up with Henry in that taxi, with the anonymous caller, but he can’t quite see him because it’s dark out, and he can’t see him through the rear view mirror.”

And Adam isn’t just going through these motions to make Henry’s life more difficult — he has a very calculated reason for taking Henry by force.

“What Adam is basically doing by kidnapping Henry is — he’s been trying to make a connection with Henry for several episodes now, and Henry is rebuffing him,” Miller explained. “[Adam’s]…concern is that Henry doesn’t believe him; Henry doesn’t think he shares his affliction, too. The first thing he wants to do to Henry is prove that he’s immortal, also, which he does very early on…in a very violent and visceral way, so there’s no doubt in Henry’s mind that he, too, is immortal.”

But unfortunately for Henry, that won’t be the only tricks Adam pulls in “Skinny Dipper.”

“Adam, in some very unusual ways, is manipulating Henry throughout the course of the episode,” Miller previewed. “But the first thing that happens is when Adam picks him up in that cab at the end of 1×10/at the top of 1×11, he killed a cab driver in order to access that cab. The mystery of the episode begins when the body ends up at the medical examiner’s office, like it usually does, and it’s the cab driver. So Henry, throughout the course of the episode, along with Jo and the rest of the NYPD are trying to figure out who killed this cab driver. But what Henry knows and they don’t know is the end of this mystery will reveal the anonymous caller to him.”

“But as he gets closer and closer to finding out who did this, the signs start to point to Henry, as if he is in someway related to this crime, because Adam has artfully placed evidence of Henry at the crime scene that they start to find,” he continued. “So all of the eyes start to point at Henry, as if he could be involved with it. So Henry is left with this incredibly difficult predicament, that in order to explain to everybody he is not in fact the killer who did all this, he kind of has to tell them there’s a guy out there that has been stalking him…so Henry is left with this very unusual conflict and predicament in the episode: does he protect himself by outing his secret?”

Uh oh…

FOREVER’s midseason finale airs Tuesday, December 9th at 10 PM on ABC. And come back after the show for more from Miller!
