SUPERNATURAL, SUPERSTORE, and MOM

“Higgledy-Piggledy and a Cat Show” — Bonnie is forced to relive painful Christmas memories when Christy recounts tales from her childhood to Bonnie’s sponsee, Patty (Kate Micucci), on MOM, Thursday, Dec. 12 (9:01-9:30 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. Pictured (L-R): Kate Micucci as Patty, Allison Janney as Bonnie, Anna Faris as Christy, and William Fichtner as Adam Photo: Robert Voets/2019 Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc. All Rights Reserved.

Let’s talk about Thursday night’s TV!SUPERNATURAL: While I’m not surprised we saw Rowena again, I am surprised it was so soon post-death. (I figured it would be a reveal in the final batch of episodes.)

Adam’s return had been built up for so many years that I really wasn’t sure what to expect. If this ends up being it—even though he’s going to help, so it would make sense he returns at some point–I was really glad that at least Dean got a moment to express his regret.

Though I’m kind of surprised there wasn’t a bigger cliffhanger? I don’t need artificial cliffhangers for the sake throwing a twist in, but I absolutely expected something to make the hiatus painful. Certainly the Sam/Chuck scene, which didn’t even conclude the episode, felt a bit more of a hiatus-worthy end.

(But as serious as the episode was, Dean yelling out, mid-fight, to see if anyone was winning—because, uh, all three of them were not—made me laugh out loud.)

SUPERSTORE: It was delightful to unexpectedly see Ian Gomez pop up as a Cloud 9 overlord…but, yikes, man. I was really happy for Jonah and Sandra that they got a win, and then everything crumbled around them. I know the Cloud 9-ers can’t artificially get a perfect work experience, but it hurt. Here’s hoping the new owners are not awful! [For more on what comes next, here’s what the showrunners had to say.]

MOM: Allison Janney is always great, but Bonnie’s breakdown as she had to contend with her past failures as a mom was heartbreaking. We’ve seen glimpses of it over the past few seasons, but this was the first time we’ve really seen grief versus overcompensating. But, man, I don’t care how cheesy the holiday matching outfits were, I loved them.
