Let’s talk about Sunday night’s TV!

THE EQUALIZER: In many ways, it felt like episode 2 was the second part of the pilot. The pilot didn’t feel incomplete, but this very much felt like it was putting pieces more firmly in place—Robyn working with the company and agreeing to be freelance, most notably.

It also is interesting how much the show, especially in episode 2 is giving me a PERSON OF INTEREST vibe. Robyn obviously has a much deeper tie to her family and is considerably less damaged than John was on POI, but the rogue agent working outside of law enforcement, but also trying to help law enforcement…I’m intrigued to see how Robyn balances it.

AMERICAN IDOL: Look, there were incredible performances. Grace Kinstler was arguably the performance of the night. Benson Boone and Alex Miller could be dark horses.

But obviously the moment of the night was Claudia Conway. IDOL films before a lot of the more recent drama in her life, but I felt quasi-gross watching her audition. She’s talented! She deserves to have something she wants. But it very much felt like the show was delighting in having a potential trainwreck and was milking it for all it’s worth.

The only good element of it was Katy Perry’s kindness, because it really felt like she was actually worried about Claudia and wanted to get her in a safe place.

(That being said, Jason Warrior’s behavior on THE FOUR was bad, and romanticizing it is also…a choice!)

BATWOMAN: The episode was good; I just…remain tired by the Kate of it all. And I get it; it’s still too close for the people who love her and the Beth/Alice of it all means, really, they should never give up. But.

THE ROOKIE: When I saw the photos from the episode, I was honestly worried Stanton was going to shoot Jackson, so I’m glad—using that word loosely—he was just dangerously disengaged vs. actively being the one to hurt him.

Obviously the show isn’t going to solve racism or even the racism at play in the police force, but I was so glad Jackson got to proactively participate help in taking Stanton down—by turning his camera back on, which proved he hung Jackson out to dry while he was being attacked—and then delaying his trip to the hospital to see him be stripped of his badge. I hope the show doesn’t stop dealing with the ramifications of police reform now that this arc is over.
