Let’s talk about Sunday night’s TV!

AMERICAN IDOL: I’m torn on the show. It was a great, entertaining two hours of TV. But…it rarely felt like the contestants themselves were the priority.

It’s a tough spot to be in. With 12 contestants going each night this week, they very easily could have spaced it out to six songs per hour. Doing a solo song plus a duet with a celebrity made the show fly by, but it also felt like the individual songs were kind of brushed aside and some of the duets really felt more about the celeb counterpart.

THE EQUALIZER: I really loved this episode, and how Mel went undercover to help Robyn. (And Harry’s reveal that he’s been messing with the credit score of the man who hurt Mel? Perfection.) And I appreciate how Robyn approached the situation with Delilah…and quietly used her pull to help her friend.

ZOEY’S EXTRAORDINARY PLAYLIST: Okay, Mo’s kid/baby goat joke was incredible. As was David’s horrified expression as he realized mid-song that his band was playing a song about his sister. And the Zoey-themed cake and snacks!

I’m bummed and kind of frustrated we’re so thoroughly back in the love triangle situation. I don’t know if I would have felt that way if it didn’t seem like the show was moving past it, but now it feels like as messy/complicated as season 1. (And Simon…deserves better? She chose Max. He’s interested in someone else so she’s going back to Simon? Sigh.)

THE ROOKIE: Okay, so Lucy is daring—you don’t pull a prank like that when someone is driving. (Also, like, does it count as being undercover prep/proving your point if it’s also probably kind of true deep down? I don’t think so.)

I’m really curious what the show looks like with two-thirds of the rookies now…not. Obviously their careers are just starting, but are we going to see Tim with a new rookie? Lucy and Jackson with new partners? (It seems like they’re with each other in the next episode, but will that stick?)

And my weekly plea: PROTECT ANGELA AND HER BABY, PLEASE.
