ONE CHICAGO, THE GOLDBERGS, ALTER EGO

ALTER EGO: Alter Ego Dipper Scott (Contestant Jacob Thomsen) in Part One of the “The Auditions Begin” series premiere episode of ALTER EGO airing Wednesday, Sept. 22 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. © 2021 FOX Media LLC.

Let’s talk about Wednesday night’s TV!

CHICAGO MED: I am so, so, so happy Natalie and Will got an on-screen farewell. It still hurts Natalie and April were gone, but it felt like Natalie’s exit was so unfinished given the cliffhanger of her admitting she stole the drugs. I’m glad there was some closure.

It felt like we got a lot of information about the new doctors at once, and I’m not sure what to make of them yet. But I loved Archer and Charles’ twin case, because holy……………

[For more on the episode, here’s what the EPs said about Natalie’s brief return.]

THE GOLDBERGS: Man, it was very, very, very smart to actually set the episode months after Pops died, which did allow for a bit of detachment for a bit…until the end, when I absolutely lost it. How beautiful and how sad.

THE MASKED SINGER: I wasn’t super blown away by Week 1, and always hate the “wait until the next episode to find out the result of this twist!!” on reality shows, but I’m happy to have this wonderfully weird show back.

THE WONDER YEARS: As someone who never saw the original series (I know, I know), I found this take absolutely charming. Child actors can be so hit/miss, but I found the whole group to be strong. Looking forward to seeing more.

CHICAGO FIRE: I’m glad everyone survived, because lord knows FIRE has killed people in the past. I feel so awful for Cruz, because it absolutely makes sense his experience would be traumatizing him. But he also can’t let it consume him, since he’s still actively working in a dangerous profession.

Gallo, Ritter, and Violet are really so much fun together. I am delighted every time we get to spend time with this trio. [For more on the episode, here’s what EP Derek Haas says.]

ALTER EGO: The idea of this is fun, but the execution does feel a little lacking. I wish they were just competing as a whole versus going one-on-one. (Because, fundamentally, if you’re earlier, you have to “win” more battles than if you are there coming in at the end. This didn’t play out that way, but it just seems unfair.) The technology is amazing, though.

THE CONNERS: The episode itself was good, but I got distracted a few times by the live elements. (Not the obvious moments where they leaned into it, but

CHICAGO P.D.: Oh, boy, I’m worried about…virtually everyone. I worry Voight is going to regress. I worry Upton is going to crack under the pressure. I worry Halstead is going to freak when he realizes what he missed before the proposal. I worry about Burgess’ recovery, and Ruzek’s uncertainty about how to handle things. Right now, I feel like only Trudy and Atwater are okay? PROTECT THEM AT ALL COSTS. [For more on the episode, here’s what EP Rick Eid and stars Jason Beghe and Tracy Spiridakos said.]

BIG BROTHER: Can we just go back and retroactively make…a different final four? I guess I’m reluctantly hoping Big D pulls it out, but I’m sure it’s X’s to lose at this point.

A MILLION LITTLE THINGS: I am so glad Gary was not alone, and hope Christopher did the bulk of the damage. But at the same time, this is going to change so much and I’m just so sad for them all.

Man, I’m also really, really, really going to miss D. The real-life circumstances around her leaving make sense, but I loved D so much and she was so important in that friend group. I hope she can return as much as makes sense. [For more on the episode, here’s what EP DJ Nash says.]
