[Warning: This post contains spoilers for the CHICAGO FIRE season premiere.]

On the CHICAGO FIRE season 10 premiere, despite the near-death experience, all of Firehouse 51 made it out of the season finale cliffhanger intact. The less good news? When father-to-be Cruz (Joe Minoso) realized how close he came to death—and that Severide (Taylor Kinney) was willing to die to save him—he spiraled.

So what comes next? CHICAGO FIRE showrunner Derek Haas answered a few questions via email…

The groundwork was laid for a shift in the firehouse with Boden’s new responsibility. How will everyone be coping with that and how gradual will the rollout be?
Boden will be coping with it the worst of all. He loves Firehouse 51 and though he’s excited about his new position, he feels a longing to be surrounded by his guys. Unfortunately, he’s stuck at a different firehouse.

With a new baby on the way and surviving his near-death experience, how will Cruz be handling the danger of his job?
He will not be handling it well. A near-death experience can mess a person up for a long time.

Brett and Casey seem happy and are now public about their romance. What’s next for the duo?
Big changes coming down the pike. Personally, I just wanted them to be happy forever, but the writing staff said that wouldn’t be as much fun.

Now that Stella and Severide are engaged and he survived his own almost-death experience, how will the duo be proceeding with wedding plans? And what can we expect from Stella with her own career advancement?
I’m going to hold off on that one for now.

Outside of the premiere and episode 200, what season 10 episode are you most excited for fans to see?
I love the one after the 200th episode… it’s an episode where the Old School guys at the firehouse are thrust to center stage. It’s gonna be a lot of fun.

Is there anything else you can share about what’s to come in season 10?
The Violet, Ritter, Gallo career choice is going to be fun to watch. Be careful what you wish for.

CHICAGO FIRE, Wednesdays, 9/8c, NBC
