A MILLION LITTLE THINGS – “miles apart” – Maggie is forced to face the harsh reality that cancer still controls her life, while Gary must choose between supporting a friend in need and building his relationship with Darcy. Meanwhile, Rome helps Regina at Someday during the COVID-19 transition, on a new episode of “A Million Little Things,” THURSDAY, MARCH 18 (10:01-11:00 p.m. EST), on ABC. (ABC/Jack Rowand)

When A MILLION LITTLE THINGS returns on Wednesday, February 23, Gary (James Roday Rodriguez) and Maggie (Allison Miller) will be spending a lot of time together, as the duo go to meet with her stalker—whom Maggie realized was the mother of a former patient, who ended their life via suicide.

“For a long time now, people have wanted Gary and Maggie to be back together,” A MILLION LITTLE THINGS creator DJ Nash previews. “They’re not back together, but they’re back together in a car for a full episode where a lot of things come out.”

As the duo embark on their trip, “what you’re gonna see is this couple that really—I mean, they had sex the night they met and they had a bond that was even more powerful than that over [their shared cancer experience],” Nash acknowledges. “[It was] probably the hardest thing they both had to deal with, with the possible exception of losing John and Maggie’s brother.”

But since their breakup—and with Maggie now dating hockey player Camden (Ryan Hansen)—”what we’re seeing now is this friendship that has reached this incredible level,” Nash notes.  “And is tested in this episode with some things that challenge it. Do two people who love each other truly just want that person to be happy, regardless of how it affects their life? Or does your own love for them get in the way?”

While the duo is away, Rome (Romany Malco)—who is struggling with the return of his depression—gets some much needed one-on-one time with Eddie (David Giuntoli).

“You have two men who were dealt challenges in their lives,” Nash previews. “And as our show has [been] about right from the beginning, with the right group of friends around you, you can get through anything. And I think both these men, in this episode, are reminded of how important friendship is and how that friendship—and the shared experiences—sometimes give you the courage to confront the most difficult challenges of your life.”

A MILLION LITTLE THINGS, Wednesdays, 10/9c, ABC
